Pakistani Ships participate in USA’s Fleet Week

1st June 2005 - Two of Pakistan Navy ships “Moawin and Tippu” participated in fleet week to celebrate the Memorial Day in United States. This is the first time that two ships of Pakistan Navy fleet are seen on the docks of Staten Island and New York. Pakistani community and many other nationals visited the ships and learn the history of the both ships. Pakistan Navy “Jawans and officers welcome aboard all the visitors with their professional fitness and traditional ethics which bring the fantastic introduction of Pakistan Navy and a bright impression of Pakistan in either way.
Many Pakistanis, particularly Pakistani families are seen on the both ships while living far from their homeland. They enjoyed their pride Navy ships as well their Navy men in front of them.
Moawin
Moawin (A-20) meaning helper is one of the dynamic units of Pakistan fleet and pride of the AUXMIN-9 Squadron. The Dutch made is designed as Combat Support Ship. It was made in 1963 and commissioned into Dutch Navy in 1964. The ship was handed over to Pakistan Navy and re-commissioned as PNS MOAWIN on July 1994. The ship had the opportunity to visit East/South Africa, South East Asia and Gulf, so journeying the ports of Mombassa, Durban, Simons Town, Cape Town, Port Louis, Jakarta, Male, Colombo, Chitagong, Rangoon, Singapore, Langkawi, Doha, Muscat, Bahrain and Dammam. She has recently participated in the efforts of Government of Pakistan to provide relief to Tsunami affected in Sri Lanka and Indonesia. She has ability to carry fuel for approximately 180 frigate days at sea.

Ship motto is “ANY WHERE ANY TIME”

Tippu
The ship is named after the famous brave Muslim ruler of India Tippu Sultan. This is a war ship and had cat launchers on it. F-185 is a type-21 build in 1977. She participated in Falkland War in 1980. She was handed over to Pakistan Navy in 1994. Some modifications were made to it. A quadruple Harpoon missile launcher was fitted in place of Exocet launchers as well phalanx CIWS, 20mm and 30mm guns were fitted on it. Tippu is a pride to Pakistan Navy fleet.
