Massive Clean-up Efforts to Help the Local Community of Nariyah

Feb. 2005
Saudi Aramco employees, their male dependants and the local community members were on a trip to clean the desert in Nariyah in the Eastern Province on Thursday February 24, 2005.  The program was organized by the Saudi Aramco Public Relations Department.
There were a total 32 buses loads of Saudi Arabs, Expatriates and the local school children set out to help the Nariyah community to clean the surrounding desert in Nariyah area.  The program started with buses leaving the Saudi Aramco Oil Exhibit in Dhahran at 8:30 AM reaching at Nariyah at 11:00 AM and all the participating members were out in the desert with trash bags in their hands and started collecting trash in the desert to clean the environment.  The purpose of the trip was to pass on the following message:

It was an awareness program for the local community members that if people from Dhahran can travel 250 KMs for the cleaning efforts, the local community members should feel as their responsibility to clean their own surrounding.

The involvement of the school children from the local community was to deliver the above message and let the children feel their responsibility as members of the community to save the environment in their surroundings.
The Saudi Aramco was very generous in providing free transport, caps, T-shirts, gloves, and a luncheon to encourage the participants.
After the cleaning efforts, all the participants went to tents for prayer, rest and also to eat the lunch which was a traditional Saudi Kabsa with fruits and drinks.  After lunch the program continued with a live show of camels, horse riding and falcon hunting.
All the participants enjoyed the program and thanked Saudi Aramco for this awareness program in cleaning the environment of Saudi Arabia and making awareness to the local community starting from the school children which is a very basic group of the society.
