SS Shaikh, Ras Tanura April 25, 2005The Saudi Aramco Employees Association-Ras Tanura Chapter (SAEA) organized a trip to Nauriyah Desert on Thursday April 21, 2005. The trip started from Najmah Surf House early morning at 6:00 AM. All families and children were excited to see the real Saudi Arabian desert and the village Beduvin life.  There were more than 70 participants distributed in separate buses. The caravan left Ras Tanura around 6:30 AM.  Breakfast was served in the buses. To freshen-up a short stopover was made at a gas station, midway to Nauriyah – the destination of the trip.
The first stop was at Nauriyah City Thursday Beduvin Market which everybody was excited to visit and buy the local Saudi items like carpets, hand made sheep and camel wool wall hanging rugs, dates, spices and herbs, etc.  The dried camel and goat milk, butter oil and other items were of extreme interest to everybody.  The participants spent about two hours shopping at the market area.
The second stop was at a local Nozhah hotel where everybody was relaxed and the traditional Kabsa was served for lunch with fresh local Naimi sheep along with drinks and fruits.  It was a fun filled trip, and for few it was a first time enjoying Kabsa lunch in a Saudi Arab cultural environment.  After having lunch, Duhr prayers and a little relaxed time at the hotel, the participants had fun in the Nauriyah desert.  All the participants were given a surprise door prizes, it was a crystal souvenirs trophy showing a camel with trip destination and date imprinted.

In the desert, all the buses were parked-beach umbrellas were installed for the shades; carpets were used for all the participants to relax. Snacks and refreshments were also served.  Children and few adults played soccer and volley ball in the desert and had lots of fun.  There was a good reaction with the local young Saudi citizens of the area. They showed us two samples of the desert lizards (Dhab). Some children held the lizard with its tail and tried to serve it by water. All those who had their still or video cameras took still and videos for their memories.
The caravan departed at 4:15 PM
reaching at Ras Tanura Najmah Camp around 6:30 PM.  Both the onward and return journeys were very safe and comfortable by all the participants.
Finally, all the participants thanked the Organizing Committee Jawaid Hasan, Mohammad Arif, Iqbal Khan and Mohammad Akram for organizing such an enjoyable and pleasant trip to the desert and look forward for such more trips to some other areas in the future.
