Pakistani students to participate in Unilever international art contest

KARACHI, Oct 19 (NNI): Students from selected schools in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Peshawar have been invited to participate in an International Art Project for School sponsored by Unilever plo and Lever Brothers Pakistan Limited.
This was announced in a press release issued by Lever Brothers Pakistan Limited in Karachi Friday.
Three entries, one each for age groups corresponding to primary, middle and high school levels, will be selected for inclusion in an international exhibition scheduled to be held at the prestigious Tate Modern gallery in London on December 6. The exhibition will also be displayed on the Tate and Unilever Websites, reaching a global audience.
The students whose work is selected for the international exhibition will travel to London with a parent or teachers as guests of Lever Brothers Pakistan and of Unilever plc. Ther4e they will join other finalists from around the world in a special celebration and see their work exhibited at one of the world’s leading galleries for contemporary art.
The finalists will also have the chance to meet an international renowned artists who has created a work in ‘The Unilever Series’, an art commission at the Tate Modern sponsored by Unilever, a multinational company noted for its patronage of the arts.
The theme selected for the Unilever International Art Project is "Environment’ and works submitted which must be contemporary in style, can be two-dimensional three-dimensional or moving images.
Unilever has long been know for its strong commitment to creativity and art, to education and to environmental responsibility. The Unilever International Art Project brings these three areas together, stimulating the creativity of students on a topic of crucial importance, the environment.
Lever Brothers Pakistan has appointed Professor Salima Hashmi, a well-known personality in art circles and former Principal of the National College of Art, as Chief Coordinator of the Project in Pakistan.
An exhibition of students art works form all the four cities will be held in Karachi on November 5 to 6 and a panel of nationally known at experts will select the best entries for inclusion in the international exhibition.
Prizes and merit certificates will be presented to the winners by Lever Brothers Pakistan Chairman Ms. Musharraf Hai on November 6. –NNI
