court in this Pakistani city has set a new precedent in the country's
judicial history by ordering the payment of blood money in easy
Additional Sessions Judge Khalid Mahmood ordered the release of an accused in a murder case, Musawir Abbas, against two surety bonds of Rs 100,000 each, binding him to pay Rs 2,500 as monthly instalment of blood money to the heirs of the deceased, court officials said here Friday.
According to the prosecution, Fouzia Bibi, a resident of Ichhra neighbourhood of Lahore, sold out her house for Rs 600,000 through Abbas and handed over the money to her adopted son Abdul Karim for safekeeping. However, with the help of an accomplice, Abbas shot dead Karim for the money.
When the plaintiff forgave Musawir, the judge ordered Fouzia Bibi and the accused to jointly pay Rs 136,114 as blood money, which was to be paid to the minor children of the deceased.
Musawir submitted a bail application on the ground that being in jail he is unable to arrange Rs 68,057 as his share of the blood money. He submitted that he could pay the amount in instalments if he is released from the jail. His plea was granted. -Internews
