trying to reduce Indo-Pak tension: Blair
LONDON Oct 19 (NNI):
Britain is trying hard to reduce tension between India
and Pakistan, Prime Minister Tony Blair has said.
"Instability owing to the Kashmir dispute was there. That is one of the
reasons, we are trying to work as hard as we can both with India and
Pakistan to reduce tension there," Blair told Arab and Muslim
correspondents at the 10 Downing Street when asked to comment on major
source of tension in South Asia.
Replying to another question, Blair said "I believe that India does
recognise the need for restraint and I think it is important that we
recognise it too. We are in close contact with the Indian government as we
are with the Pakistani government."
The British Prime Minister, who had visited India and Pakistan recently,
said "We believe that the way that we will resolve the difficulties is
through negotiations and discussion between India and Pakistan,
not through violence."
"Now again these things are very difficult but I think you can rest
assured that we are very well aware of the dangers because of that
particular source of tension and the need for us to focus on it."ŚNNI
