Kashmir varsity teachers banned from talking to the press

SRINAGAR Oct 22 (NNI): Following imposing ban on journalists by its Cice Chancellor, Prof Jalees Ahmad Khan Tareen to enter the Kashmir University campus, the university teachers have also been instructed to keep away from the Press and avoid talking about politics.
Sources said governor G C Saxena, who is also the chancellor of Kashmir University, noticed some lecturers talking about the situation in Kashmir on private TV channels recently and reportedly conveyed his displeasure to the Vice ChancellorC, reports Indian Express.
As a result, Tareen, who took over as the V-C early this year, declared the university out of bound for journalists and also directed the heads of different departments not to interact with the Press without prior permission. The V-C expressed his ire against the university teachers at a meeting of the department heads, a source said.
Henceforth, all print and TV journalists will require permission from the V-C's office to enter the campus for professional purposes, according to the university order.
The controversy surfaced when some university teachers made some anti-national remarks during a discussion in a programme on a private TV channel. A J&K minister was also participating in the discussion. The government has taken objection to the remarks made by a woman teacher in the programme and is contemplating action against her, according to sources.
The university has been in the news during the last week on account of the protest demonstrations against the US attacks on Afghanistan. The students boycotted classes for four days and even pelted stones at the police during the demonstrations. ŚNNI
