Pakistan to build three more nuclear power plants

ISLAMABAD, October 25 (Internews): Pakistan will set up three more
nuclear power plants and sites for two of them have already been
selected while selection for the third will be made shortly, reports
 said here Thursday.
Pervez Ahmed, the chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission was on Thursday quoted by Urdu daily Jang as saying that details about the
expansion programme would be announced shortly.
In the first phase, a 'K2 nuclear power plant' would be set in the
northern part of the Punjab province, while 'C2 nuclear power plant'
would be set up in southern Punjab.
"Another K2 plant will be set up by expanding the Karachi Nuclear Power
Plant, which will generate 600 megawatts of power," Ahmed said.
The C2 plant would be set up adjacent to the existing Chashma nuclear
power plant in central Pakistan, which would have a power generation
capacity of either 300 or 600 megawatts.
The site for the third plant, Ahmed added, would be selected near a dam
and suitable places near the Guddu Barrage in the south are being
 considered. -Internews
