Saudi Arabia, Pakistan to stand together to face challenges collectively

ISLAMABAD, Oct 25 (NNI): Saudi Arabia has expressed solidarity with the people and leadership of Pakistan assuring that the two countries would stand together to face challenges collectively.
This was stated by the Khadim-e-Harmain Sharifain King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz and the Crown Prince Abdullah in their special messages to the President. The Saudi Foreign Minister and the Special Envoy of the Saudi leaders Prince Saud Al Faisal delivered these remarks when he met General Pervez Musharraf in Islamabad on Thursday.
After the meeting that lasted for an hour, the President General Pervez Musharraf told newsmen that they discussed the Afghan situation in its totality and there was total unanimity of views on how to approach the problem and its consequences.
He said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoyed such close brotherly relations even in the past that there is no parallel to this any where. He said the two countries maintain very close contacts on all important issues around the world and there is total unanimity of view between them. He said Pakistan is grateful to Saudi Arabia for the support it has provided to Pakistan in the past and they look to the future for cooperation in all areas whether political or economic as has existed in the past.
The President thanked the Saudi Arabian leadership and the Foreign Minister for the support they have expressed to Pakistan.
The Saudi Special Envoy and Foreign Minister said he shared with General Musharraf that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have stood together when national interests of either country were challenged and they faced those challenges collectively.
In reply to a question that the economic difficulties being faced by Pakistan due to the present situation, Prince Saud Al-Faisal assured that Saudi Arabia will do whatever it can and standby Pakistan. He said Pakistan is a country that has been a bastion of the Islamic Ummah and solidarity with Pakistan is duty of every Muslim particularly at this critical time.
He said the policies Pakistan was following in the wake of the present situation are in line with the decisions of the OIC Foreign Minister’s Conference held recently in Doha.
Officials sources told our diplomatic correspondent that during the meeting the Saudi Foreign Minister assured his country’s full support and said that Saudi Arabia would not be found wanting in support to Islamabad. The Saudi Envoy said that the security and stability of Pakistan was of highest priority to his country.
The President expressed his gratitude for the consistent support that Islamabad has been receiving in the past and over the assurances that his support will continue in the future. General Musharraf also assured that Pakistan will continue to standby Saudi Arabia. –NNI
