ISLAMABAD Oct 29 (NNI): An official spokesman
of Pakistan Monday termed a report published in an American magazine "New
Yorker" as baseless and contrary to the facts.
Dismissing negative speculations regarding safety and security of strategic assets, the spokesman stated that President of Pakistan General Pervez Musharraf has made it clear time and again that the strategic capability is fully safeguarded and there existed no possibility whatsoever of its falling into "wrong hands."
The New Yorker Magazine Monday alleged that a special US unit is training with Israeli commandos to take out Pakistan's nuclear weapons in case of a coup against President General Pervez Musharraf. "The speculation is ridiculous as the government is firmly in control of the affairs of the state," the spokesman added.
The spokesman also categorically rejected the magazine's claim that some officers in ISI have close contact with Afghanistan
ruling Taliban. "The report about Pakistan nuke programme, strategic assets and any differences amongst ISI is totally baseless and ridiculous," the spokesman remarked, adding, "that neither ISI could not transfer nuclear know how to anybody."
He added that Pakistan's strategic assets were the cornerstone of the country's national security and by the grace of Almighty
Allah there was no question of any compromise on the nuclear programme. -NNI
