Bush lifts last sanctions imposed on Pakistan

WASHINGTON Oct 30 (NNI): The US President Mr. George W. Bush has waived the last sanctions imposed on Pakistan following the nuclear tests in 1998.
A spokesman of the White House Sean McCormack said here that it will clear the way for a fresh infusion of financial aid to the key ally Pakistan in the US led military campaign in Afghanistan.
Mr. Bush signed legislation that allows him to waive the last remaining sanctions through September 2003.
The Bush Administration plans to announce shortly a new aid package for Pakistan that could range from three hundred to five hundred million dollars.
The spokesman also announced that President Bush would meet President General Pervez Musharraf on 10th of next month when the two leaders would be in New York for the UN General Assembly.--NN
