US House of Representatives praises Musharraf

  WASHINGTON, November 15 (Internews): Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf  has been commended by the US House of Representatives for his leadership  and his role in the establishment of an international coalition against  terrorism.
 The resolution that also welcomed the President to the United States was
 moved by Congressmen David Bonior and Jim Pitts, Congress officials said
 here Thursday.
 The resolution said the Pakistani president had taken important steps in
 cooperating with the United States in combating terrorism.
 It went on to note that the war against terrorism under- scored the
 importance of increasing the "historic" bilateral relationship between
 Pakistan and the United States.
 The president was also commended for pursuing the "return of Pakistan to
 democracy and civil society." As well as praised for having "shown great
 fortitude in confronting extremists in Pakistan."
 Also commended was the Pakistani-American community for its
 "people-to-people" diplomacy and the important role it was playing in
 "building bridges between the two nations." -Internews
