UNDP Committed US$131 Million For 24 New Projects

Islamabad, November 15, 2001.

An amount of US$131 million has been committed by UNDP for 24 new and ongoing projects in Pakistan, which is almost twice as much as the existing UNDP commitment. This was announced by dr. Hafeez Pasha, Assistant Administrator, UNDP. Out of these 24 projects there are 13 new and 11 ongoing projects.  Disbursements shall be over the next three years. The projects cover the thematic areas of Gender, Governance, Environment,
Sustainable Livelihoods and Disaster Management.
The total project outlay for the entire portfolio is US dollars 166.22
million dollars. After the commitment of US dollars 131 million, the funding
gap remains US dollar 35.22 million dollars which shall be bridged through
other donors including bilateral and multilateral agencies. The meeting was
attended by Secretary-General Finance, Secretaries of Economic Affairs
Division & Planning Division, senior representatives of the Federal line
Ministries, four Provincial Governments and AJK. Mr. Onder Yucer, Resident Rep. and other senior officials of UNDP were also present.
