Qualifications Awarded By CPSP Superior to FRCS & MRCP

December 1, 2001
It is a matter of great prestige for Pakistan that qualifications awarded by college of physicians and surgeons Pakistan with an additional experience of 1-3 years in accredited institutions will be recognized as superior to MRCP & FRCS awarded by the Royal colleges of Surgeons of U.K for the purpose of consultant appointment in many countries.
This was said by Dr. Abdul Malik Kasi Federal Minister for Health while commenting on a MoU concluded between the college of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSP)  & the Saudi Council for Health specialists (SCHS).

The SCHS has agreed to establish PCPS-1 overseas centers in Riyadh and Jeddah with effect from July 2001. The CPSP would depute its Chief Controller and Deputy Chief Controller of Examinations to establish and run examination department of SCHS. The CPSP will also provide facilitators from its “WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Educational Development of Health personnel” to conduct different workshops for the teaching faculty of different institutions of Saudi Arabia in the field of Medical Education.
The Minister said, this MoU is an evidence of the credibility, which the CPSP has developed for its setup, functioning, the processes of accreditation for medical institutions along with the system of monitoring the training. It also signifies that the award of qualifications by CPSP is through an unbiased and structured method of examination, which is of international standard.
The Minister appreciating the services of CPSP said, this for the first time in the history of Pakistan and CPSP that the postgraduate medical qualifications awarded by CPSP have been recognized overseas and are considered superior to the qualifications awarded by the Royal Colleges of United Kingdom, i.e. FRCS and MRCP which have standing of 400 years.
The MoU was signed in Riyadh last week between the CPSP delegation headed by its President Prof. M. Sultan Forooqui and SCHS delegation headed by Prof. Hussain Al Frelhi, M.D. Secretary General.
The Ministry of Health especially the Health Minister played pivotal role in this regard. SCHS and CPSP have agreed to start exchange of examiners especially in 5 major specialties i.e. Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Ob/Gyne and Anesthesia.
