council to set up Pakistani medical centres in Riyadh and Jeddah
2 (Internews): The Saudi Council for Health
Specialties (SCHS) will establish centres of the College of Physicians
and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP) in Riyadh and Jeddah in July 2002.
Aside from the establishment of overseas centres of the CPSP, a
Memorandum of Understanding signed between CPSP and SCHS includes a
clause whereby the qualifications awarded by the former - with an
additional experience of one to three years in an accredited institution
- will be recognised as superior to MRCP and FRCS awarded by the Royal
Colleges of United Kingdom for the purpose of consultant appointment.
This is the first time in the history of Pakistan that the postgraduate
medical qualifications awarded by CPSP have been recognised overseas and
are being considered superior to the qualifications awarded by the Royal
Colleges of the UK in FRCS and MRCP, which have a standing for 400

deputy chief controller of examinations to establish and run the
examination department of SCHS.
The CPSP and the SCHS have agreed to exchange examiners in five major
subject specialties, namely, medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics

Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Educational
Development of Health Personnel' to conduct different workshops for the
teaching faculty of different institutions of Saudi Arabia in the field
of medical education.
A team of experts in medical education will visit Saudi Arabia to assist
the Saudi Council in the establishment of the Department of Medical

when required, by the Saudi Council.
The Saudi Council will be holding the FCPS Part-1 examination on behalf
of CPSP in Saudi Arabia. These examinations will be held twice a year.
