Contradictory Statements over Infiltration in the Recent Past

The attention of the official
Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry was drawn to the observation by the
Indian Minister for External Affairs alleging that Pakistan had reneged
on its promise to rein in the so-called cross-LoC infiltration into
Indian Occupied Kashmir. The Spokesman responded that the Indian
leadership had in the recent past made so many contradictory statements
on this subject that they have lost all credibility.
spokesman pointed out that on 18 June the Prime Minister of India had
observed that every day there were reports of infiltration, whereas on
19 June, the Defence Minister of India had talked of a considerable drop
in the so-called infiltration along the LoC. While Home Minister Advani
had stated on June 16 that there had been no reduction, on June 20, the
Indian Foreign Ministry admitted that there had been a decline in the
so-called infiltration. There are other similar instances of

the Government of Pakistan was neither encouraging nor sponsoring any
movement across the Line of Control. He added that it appeared that the
statement by the Indian External Affairs Minister had been inspired by
the desire to deflect the pressure on India to respond positively to the
international community’s call for the de-escalation of tension and the
resumption of dialogue with Pakistan.
