Pastry stuffed with dates


- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup quick-cooking farina
- 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
- a pinch of ground cloves
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 2-4 tbs. water
- few drops of orange essence 
- 2 tbsp. ground or finely  chopped walnuts

- 1\4 cup dates, mashed
- icing sugar

1. In a bowl combine flour, farina, nutmeg and cloves and keep aside.
2. Put butter in a mixer bowl and beat at high speed of electric mixer for 1\2minute, scraping bowl constantly.
3.  Add half of the flour mixture to butter; beat at low speed until well mixed. Add remaining flour mixture, water and orange essence, beat until mixture is smooth and elastic. Divide dough into 12 equal parts.
4. On a lightly floured surface, roll each part into a 2 1\2 inch circle.
5. Combine walnuts and dates. Place about 11\2 teaspoon of the date mixture in center of each circle. Fold over and press edges together to seal.
6. Place on cookie sheet. Bake in a 350 oven for 30 to 35 minutes or till light brown. Cool on wire rack for 10 minutes and dust with icing sugar.
