Somker Dads; Beware
all know that passive smoke is bad, but now there's a new wrinkle to the debate over its
dangers. Scientists report that even unborn babies can be affected when a smoker lights up
around a pregnant woman.
According to one study, infants whose mothers had been breathing passive smoke were more likely to be born underweight. This indirect exposure may do lifelong damage: Researchers at the University of Vermont also have discovered genetic mutations in these newborns, which may explain their higher rate of leukemia and other cancers.
If you're carrying a baby, stay far, far away from anyone who's smoking. As for Dads-to-be who still smoke: Get your butts outside.
