RIYADH, Dec. 22 The Chairman XI emerged victorious by a narrow
margin of four runs against ICOC XI at the Sulhay ground in a festival match which was
played in the honor of ICC official for the Asia region, Nasim Ul Ghani who visited Riyadh
recently.
Large holiday crowd saw Chairmans captain Fayyaz Hussain won the toss and elected to
bat. They made 151 for 8 in the allotted 20-overs. Javed remained 33 not out. Afzal Pasha
23, Saif-ur-Rehman 22, Arshad 17 and Wahab Khan 16 were the other run makers. For the
losers, Nazeer captured three wickets for 33. Javed Munawar and Jamel Khan shared two
wickets for 22 and 18 runs.
ICOC began well and although they lost only two batsmen, but they managed 147 after the
end of their stipulated overs. Arif Mehmood added useful 38 and was unbeaten at the
crease. Captain Nadeem Baber made 34, Owais Ahmed 33 and Mustafa Butt 28 not out. Muhammed
Aamir and Iftikhar Qureshi picked up a victim each by giving away 30 and 35 runs. Umpires
Maqsood and Rehmat Jalil declared Nazeer the man of the match. The best batsmen were Arif
Mehmood and Javed. Jameel Khan was the best bowler.
Chief guest, Ghani gave away the awards to the winning team and some deserving individuals
based on their performances. The ICC official who left Riyadh after his fact finding tour
for Madinah, Yanbu and Jeddah said, that he was surprised to see a large crowd and the
great organization here. The sweet memories of this trip would always be remembered by me.

CREATED In a related development, few records were created in the RCL Cup
40-overs tournament when Friends and Pak Shaheen clashed against each other which the
former won in the end by 214 runs. Here, for the victors Mirza Saifur Rehman and Afzal
Pasha made record partnership of 355 runs. Rehman made 205 with the held of ten sixes and
thirteen boundaries. He played beautifully which delighted the crowd. Pasha remained on
150 not out. He hit seventeen boundaries and also played with confidence. The victors made
a total of 408 runs. In reply, Pak Shaheen were bundled out for just 144. Abid 52, Anwar
31 and Zulfiqar 22 were amongst the runs. Fayyaz, the captain, captured four wickets and
Imran made hattrick by claiming three wickets. |
