March 2005 - “The study tour to Florida was a truly valuable experience. It gave us the opportunity to see for ourselves how the business world really operates”, says Naila Cheema a Pakistani student who went on the study tour to Florida. Recently, 26 students from the School of Business and Management at the American University of Sharjah returned from study trip to Florida. The students’ visit was spread across the two cities of Miami and Orlando. The tour was organized and supervised by Ms. Carol Houser, Director of Community relations at the university. Through this trip the students got a chance to learn about how international businesses operate. Students attended professional seminars organized by international corporations and interacted with officials at the companies to learn more about how they operated. Through this interaction students also got a chance to know about how strategies and tactics relevant to their own fields of specialization were applied in the real business world. The organizations that the students attended are General Motors, IBM, Caterpillar, Motorola, Deloitte, FedEx, Royal Caribbean, Disney World and Universal Studios. The trip wasn’t only about work, besides attending professional seminars at Universal Studios and Disney Land, the students also got a chance to spend a lot of time and have fun at these destinations. The students attended a seminar at Disney World where they dressed up in their native traditional costumes and got a chance to interact with officials as well as employees at Disney who themselves were dressed up in traditional native costumes. The interaction brought out something from each student and it was a wonderful learning experience where students got to learn about different cultures.
