RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, October 10, 2000 – Many friends and known ones gathered in large number at the residence of professor Waheed Mirza and paid rich tribute to late Zafar Iqbal Khokhar, a well known Pakistan writer as well as a comedian in the Saudi capital city.
Of today’s gathering, the mood was somber and everybody was sitting in silence with their heads down. However, the ceremony finally began with the recitation of the verses from the Holy Quran by Farid Bhutta.
After the recitation, a series of speeches began and in the chair were Tariq Soomro as president and Dr. Rao Ishtiaq Khan, the chief guest. Professor Iqbal Baig performed the role of the master of ceremony.
All those present in today’s ceremony still can recall the sudden death of Zafar Iqbal Khokhar who was loved by all in the city of Riyadh. Besides being a sincere person, he was kind hearted too. He was well-respected writer and used to make people laugh with his jokes and comedies. He was always in forefront and ready to guide his friends in the time of need. This was one of his quality on which he never compromised. And above all, he behaved with friends like brothers and to help them was his habit.
With these great qualities, even the people who were not close to him but met with once in a while felt that the friendship with Zafar is long lasting. We all know that the every one has to go from the world one day or the other but person like Zafar of these immense qualities will be really missed and it will very hard for some one to replace him in the years to come.
Professor Iqbal highlighted Zafar’s friendship, guidance in time of need and the habit in making the people laugh. When he read essays on Zafar, it brought tears to the eyes of all. Thereafter, the host, professor Wahib Mirza narrated the long deeds of events during their friendship, which were memorable to remember.
Farid Bhutta recited a sentimental poem to bring memories to the fore. A dear friend of Zafar, Bashir Mirza while reading out his essay titled: PEOPLE ALSO LEAVE US
THIS WAY, had to control his emotions on many occasions. Yusuf Ali Yusuf also conveyed his relationship with the deceased. Mehmood Bajwa was very impressed with Zafar’s quality of respect and treated him a great person.
Chief guest Dr. Rao Ishtiaq Khan said that Zafar was a very optimistic person. According to him, the late Zafar was complete example of life for the others. Tariq Soomro stated that Zafar was a very nice as a person and he loved all specially the writers family and friends, with whom he was very sincere.
In the end, all prayed to Allah, the Almighty, for the beloved soul and also for his family members to bear this great loss.
