RIYADH, Dec. 7 – Beautiful individual display of talents by Muhammed Jabri who was on target twice in the second half saw Platinum beat Visa by 2-0 margin in the Kingdom-wide final to capture the Al Bank Al Saudi Al Fransi (BSF) DMD soccer cup at the Darul Salaam school ground here.
This annual BSF gala, popularly known as the Five-A-Side event, attracted fourteen teams from all over the BSF Kingdom branches. Luckily, two teams from the Central region made it to the final in the end, said Mustafa Khateeb, the tournament coordinator.
The battle began on a fast pace when the Saudi Football Federation Division One referee, Abdullah Wahabi, blew the whistle. Both the teams missed couple of good chances. Hamza of the Visa side was given a marching order for a rough foul as the tussle ended on a scoreless tie in the first half.
The losing side, winner of the cup last year, did got together well in the second half but it was Jabri who after receiving a well coordinated pass, blasted with his powerful right foot to beat the goalkeeper and to give Platinum the lead that they were waiting for.
Realizing that time was running out, Visa tried to come back into the game and did miss two very fine opportunities. It so appeared that it was not their day tonight as Jabri just before the close of play increased the lead to seal the fate amidst loud cheers and their drum beating supporters.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Platinum beat the Western region 6-3. For the victors, Jabri scored four goals and Mossad Swaidan netted two. For the losers, Adil Ramadan, Ghassan, Naseef and Mishal Fazal scored one goal each. On the other side, Visa set aside Eastern region by 3-1. Hamza Saggaf made a hattrick and Mustafa Hussein got one for the losers.
Amongst the honored guests who graced this colorful climax were Abdulrahman A. Jawa – deputy managing director, Amr H. Taher – corporate Human Resources division manager, Abdulaziz Osman – system and operations group manager, Khalid Mousa – regional manager of Central region, Saleh Al Khareiji – manager Darul Salaam schools, Safiuddin Omar Ali – assistant manager Darul Salaam schools.
All the guest and Khateeb assisted Jawa in the prize awarding ceremony. Besides the champions, runner-up and third placer Eastern region, few other individual awards were also given away to the deserving players.
These recipients were best player – Rafa Rashid Enezi, best goalkeeper – Saud Enezi, highest goal scorer of the tournament – Muhammed Jabri. The captain of the victorious squad, Khalid Othman received the glittering cup.
In the end, Khateeb thanked the guests, players, fans, the management of the Darul Salaam schools and the BSF for their support in making the gala end colorfully and successfully. He also aired words of appreciation for Abad Medical Center courtesy of Dr. Ghayas Ahmed Sattar, for providing the medical cover for the 1999 BSF DMD Cup.
