It was a remarkable evening of March 30, 2000 when NED Engineers Forum, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia held its Annual Dinner and Pakistan Day Celebrations at Al-Salam Compound, Al-Khobar. It was attended by about 200 people including graduates of NED & Dawood Engineering College and their families and a number of distinguished Pakistanis including Engr. Ismat Amin Khawaja, Chairman Eastern Province Sub-Center of Institute of Engineers, Pakistan, Mr. Sajid Abbasi, President Pakistani Community Council, Mr Khalid Mahmood, Divisional Manager Abdulla Fouad Co, Mr. Ishaque Nasim Rana, Prominent Journalist, Engr. Tarique Barlas, General Manager, Al-Tuwairqui Group and Mr. Mohkam Shaikh, Regional Manager of Schneider Electric.

At the outset of the function Engr. Saeed Ahmed Khan, Social Secretary of the NED Engineers Forum (NEDFO), welcomed the attendees and invited Mr. Azfar Mahmood to start the function by recitation from the Holy Quran. Then Engr. Saeed Khan announced with deep sorrow the death of two NED Engineers namely Mr. Akhtar Ul Iman and Mr. Riaz Ansari and requested the attendees to pray for the departed souls.

A brief speech on the importance of Pakistan Day was also delivered by Engr. Saeed Khan. Engr. Jawaid Inam, General Secretary of the forum, presented the Annual Report, summarizing the most important events and achievements of the past year, which included a Technical Seminar "Challenges of Y2K" presented by Engr. Saeed Khan on 12 Nov. 1999 and grant of the scholarship to Mr. Mohammad Shukaib for M.S. Degree course at NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi. The Forum will continue to pay to Mr.Shukaib until completion of his M.S. Course. He also informed of the achievement made by Engr. Iqbal Ahmed Khan to get a page on website for NED Engineers Forum (NEDFO) under the only Pakistani Community Web Site in Saudi Arabia where the news and the activities of NEDFO can bee seen.

A quiz competition on the subject of Pakistan was conducted by Engr. Naseeruddin and Engr. Saeed Ahmed Khan. The competition was divided into two groups; one group consisting of students upto grade-VII and other group was open for all adults. Mr. Ammar Iftikhar won the quiz competition in the Students Group and Engr. Khurshid Anwar was the winner in Adults Group.

Children presented a number of patriotic songs and tableau which included an exciting performance by small children in military uniform parading through the stage with the song "Apnay parcham talay her sipahi chalay".

The climax of the celebration was a chorus sung by 27 children with Pakistani buntings in their hands and singing "Iss paracham kay saay talay ham aik hain". It was so overwhelming that the audience also started singing with the children and at the end of the song the hall echoed with the slogan "Pakistan Zindabad".

A fancy dress competition was organized by Mrs. Shahla Shad. A number of children took part in it. Maaz Naseer dressed up as a Saudi was declared to be best in the competition. Gifts were given to all children who took part in the events of the function. A delicious Pakistani Dinner was served by the Al-Salam Compound Catering Management.

Engr. Rizwan conducted the "Lucky Draw" of gifts given by various companies. Gifts were also given to the ladies who had organized the practice and rehearsal sessions of the children taking part in various events of the function. Mr. Jawaid Inam paid glowing tributes to Mrs. Seema Naseer, Mrs. Sofia Saeed, Mrs. Shahla Shad, Mrs. Ambareen Imam, Mrs. Huma Tarique and Dr. Anila Rizwan for their excellent contribution in preparing and presenting the children’s event so nicely.
