Riyadh, May 28, 2000 – The recent events in Pakistan, specially the people affected by the drought in areas of Sind and Balochistan has brought the feelings of many Pakistanis together not only in Pakistan but all over the world as well.   
"The drought in Balochistan and Sind is a great challenge for the whole nation and overseas Pakistanis should contribute whole heartedly to this cause, said Dr. Muhammed Iqbal, a special envoy of General Pervez Musharraf, chief executive of Pakistan on Thursday, May 25, 2000. Dr. Iqbal was on a short visit to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, said Shamshad Ali Siddiqui while outlining the details.
Dr. Iqbal was speaking at this Relief show get together which was organized by the Pakistan Cultural Group (PCG) at the Pakistan embassy hall. Amongst those who spoke on this occasion included the ambassador of Pakistan, Khalid Mehmood and PCG general secretary Abdul Hameed Abu Farooq.
Dr. Iqbal pointed out that the present government of Pakistan has set aside a huge sum for the affected areas for the people of Sind and Balochistan. Extensive efforts are on to remedy the massive problems being faced by the people in these areas. In addition, attention is also being given on the communication and transportation sectors as well.
It can be said that these massive efforts cannot be handled by the government alone and it surely require the team efforts from all. That is the reason that the Pakistanis back home and the residents in the Kingdom should cooperate. Here, he appreciated the activities of the PCG for this noble cause and stated that when he returns; he will be submitting a complete report on PCG humanitarian activities in Saudi Arabia to General Pervez Musharraf.Loading Picture
Khalid Mehmood, speaking on his turn, said that the great noble gesture shown by the Pakistanis all over the Kingdom on his appeal is worth of praise. He thanked all of them for the support. "I am receiving cheques daily from places like Jubail, Dammam, Madinah, Dhahran, Makkah, Jeddah and so many other different cities for the drought victims of Sind and Balochistan.
To the delight of the guests, he disclosed that PCG is the only organization in Saudi Arabia that have donated more than Pakistan rupees two million to the relief fund. He thanked and appreciated the efforts of the members of the PCG for donating this huge sum to the noble cause, which will earn reward from ALLAH, THE ALMIGHTY. He assured all that this amount would be utilized for the affected people of the drought areas.
The secretary general of the PCG, Abdul Hameed Abu Farooq, on behalf of the organization announced a donation of Pakistan Rupees 2, 264, 000 to the Relief Fund, which was launched by the Chief Executive.
Giving the details, Abu Farooq said out of this total amount, Rs. 1, 628, 000 have been donated by the members of the PCG while the amount of Rs. 636, 000 have been collected from today’s show.
He stated the PCG activities do not end here but will continue and more donations and aid in kind will be sent to the affected people of Sind and Balochistan.
