Disease Related to Chronic Stress
who experience chronic psychological stress are more likely to
have cardiovascular disease and to die of a stroke than their
less-stressed peers, according to a large study conducted in
This study was based upon participants in the Malmo Preventive
Project, a population-based screening and treatment initiative
that monitors thousands of participants. Between 1974 and
1980, over 13,000 men and women (avrage age 45) in the study
reported in questionnaires that they had experienced chronic
stress during the past five years. Medical records of these
13,000 persons were analyzed and compared with medical
histories of those who did not report experiencing chronic
The average length of medical follow-up was 21 years, with
records analyzed up through the year 1999. Doctors examined
the participants' medical records for the occurrence of
cardiovascular disease and death from cardiovascular
complications such as stroke. The strongest relationship to
stress was the risk of fatal stroke in men; men who had
suffered chronic stress were twice as likely as their peers to
die of a stroke. However, after adjustment for other risk
factors, an increased risk for stroke was not observed in
women, suggesting that hormonal or other differences may
modulate the effects of stress in terms of stroke risk. This
study, published in the May 2004 issue of the European Heart
Journal, confirms that psychological stress is itself a risk
factor for cardiovascular disease even after adjustment for
other known risk factors.

Healthy Diet Tips
start losing weight, it's important to keep some healthy
diet tips in mind. When armed with good dieting information,
you can change your diet from a struggle to a breeze. One of
the most important tips one should keep in mind is to drink
plenty of water. People who don't drink enough water often
experience a slower metabolism and low energy. When you have
at least 8 glasses each day, you will notice increased
energy and faster weight loss.
Healthy Diet Tips Help You Lose Weight
Some other healthy diet tips include brushing your teeth
when you have a food craving. When you brush your teeth, you
are less likely to eat. People like to keep their mouths
clean directly after brushing, so it may help you to say no
to that handful of chips. Brushing you teeth is a great tip
because it not only keeps you away from snacks, it makes
your dentist happy, too.
When sorting through healthy weight loss diet patch
information, you may come across a lot of different weight
loss tips. One you should know is to not eat at least 2
hours before bed. If you go to bed with a full stomach, it
slows your metabolism. A healthy body fasts while it sleeps,
and it finds needed energy from fat deposits. If you change
this system, you sabotage your weight loss efforts.
Finally, one more healthy diet tip is to exercise at least
every other day. Exercise gives anyone trying to lose weight
a serious boost. After a while, exercise increases your
muscle mass, and this is key for a high metabolic rate. This
allows you to burn calories even while you’re sitting.

Friends! Accept a very happy “Independence Day” greetings on
behalf of Contact Pakistan’s team and from me. I dedicate this
article to the martyrs’ every single drop of blood, which was
fallen down on the path of freedom.
Friends today I have a topic with a horrific name Glaucoma
or Kaala Paani (in Urdu). Glaucoma is also known as
“sneak – thief of sight” or “silent killer”.
Similar to blood pressure, every person has eye pressure. A
fluid named “Aqueous Humor” maintains this eye pressure. Our
eyes are continuously producing aqueous humor fluid and it’s
constantly draining from eyes. For some reason if passage of
drainage becomes narrow, blocked or our eye produces too much
quantity of aqueous fluid, then the pressure inside the eye
becomes elevated. This elevation of eye pressure can cause
glaucoma. Symptomatically you cannot judge by yourself that
you’re developing glaucoma or not, because Glaucoma are many
kinds. Some of them may have eye pain, haloes around lights,
loss of vision, red eyes and vomiting. But some types of
Glaucoma do not have any signs. It is advisable that, after
the age of 40 years, a healthy person should examine his eyes
every two years by an ophthalmologist. But if you have
diabetes or family history of Glaucoma, then you should
examine every year.
Treatment: Glaucoma is not curable it is only
manageable; we can manage Glaucoma by medicine or by surgery.
Normally Glaucoma can be treated with medicated eye drops,
surgery; or in some cases both. Both eye drops and surgery
work by helping the fluid to drain from the eye, or decreasing
the amount of fluid that is produced in the eye. Medicines of
Glaucoma have some side effects like; fluctuation in heart
rhythm, burning of eyes, fatigue, headache, drowsiness, dry
mouth and shortness of breath. Many people stop glaucoma
medications because of its side effects, but it’s better to
tell your doctor instead of stopping. It’s also important
to pay attention to other side of Glaucoma - the emotional and
psychological aspects of having this disease. If you have
Glaucoma, it doesn’t mean that life is over. You should share
your feelings with your family members, friends; and also
discuss with other Glaucoma patients about ideas and feelings
about living with Glaucoma. Friends! If you believe in
winning, and with this believe, if you can fight with life’s
problems and sufferings, then I guarantee you a victory!

Dear Contact Pakistan, This is in reference to Mr. Ali
Jaffery's letter regarding 4 Winds
company. I had a similar quote from them to move my stuff from
Alkhobar to Bahrain. Since the price was too exorbitant I
decided to go with a company from Dammam namely
Munawalla Cargo. I paid SR:
6,400.00 for packing, storage for one month, shifting from
Saudi Arabia to Bahrain including customs clearance, unloading
and unpacking. I found their service excellent. There was some
damage to goods but very minor and is expected in such cases.

AROMATHERAPY - NATURAL
Sandalwood - Essential Oil
To the dwellers of the Subcontinent and Far East, the
majestic, woody aroma of Sandalwood is both a reminder of the
golden era of Moghuls and a profound religious icon. The
world’s largest producer of excellent quality Sandalwood
essential oil is the Mysore region of India. This oil enjoys a
leading rank in Aromatherapy, Ayurvedic, Tibetan and
Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Because of its antiseptic, anti-infectious, sedative,
anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, wound-healing,
digestive, diuretic and expectorant properties, it is used
against a wide variety of dis-eases. Some of these discomforts
are: urinary bladder infections, inflammation of kidneys and
bladder, pre-menstrual and menopausal symptoms, diarrhea,
constipation, nausea, vomiting, morning sickness, and
heartburn. Furthermore, Sandalwood essential oil also helps in
digestion by increasing the mucous secretion in small and
large intestines and by speeding up fat metabolism. Massage
with this oil, improves blood circulation and promotes lymph
drainage. It also helps ease muscle spasms, lower back pain,
sciatica and neuralgia. The calming nature of sandalwood helps
relieve dry cough, bronchitis, laryngitis and sore throat. It
is an excellent oil for skin care, especially for dry,
cracked, chapped, oily, mature and wrinkled skin. It is also
used for eczema, dry dandruff, nappy rash, sunburn and acne.
Due to its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory nature, it can
calm the skin considerably if added to an after shave
On the psychological plane, Sandalwood essential oil works
well against stress, depression, nervous tension, irritation,
anxiety and insomnia. For the readers who are into meditation
and yoga, sandalwood diffusion can provide a serene atmosphere
for grounding, concentrating and relaxing.
CAUTION: Keep away from the reach of children, always use
diluted in a carrier oil, generally safe in small doses, do
not take internally.

Respecting Our Freedom
Dear fellows, Hope you all are fine even though the heat of
sun is excruciating.
14 August i.e. Pakistan’s Independence Day is around. Live
nations do not forget their national days and their national
Pakistan was created with an ideology. The need for separate
homeland was deeply felt by the millions of Muslims in the
sub-continent. The creation of Pakistan was not an ingenious
idea of the leaders of subcontinent and their British rulers,
but a demand of the masses. Will of few individuals cannot be
so powerful to bring about such a great change as a creation
of a country. Pakistan has a strong ideology behind its
creation. It has its deep foundations in the hard work of
Muslims dating back to eighteenth century. Muslim league in
the very beginning only demanded equal rights for Muslims. It
was the 1937 elections and resulting congress rule that showed
the Muslims a glimpse of what could happen if they are left at
the mercy of Hindus majority. And then our leaders and people
together demanded the separate homeland named Pakistan.
Lately, we see good relations developing between Pakistan and
India. The social, economical and political bonuses attached
to this new friendship make it all the more attractive.
However, we should never forget our identity. It is now even
more essential for us to understand the unique and mind
boggling circumstances that resulted in the creation of
Pakistan and about the realities that were involved.
Developing good relations with India is a welcoming step,
provided, our separate identity, which was the driving force
for freedom movement for Pakistan is not hit.
Our national days are infact reminders for us…to make us
realize of the pain borne by millions of Muslims of the
sub-continent, the untiring effort of the leaders and the
innumerable sacrifices made while converting a dream into a
Freedom is a great blessing. Live nations realize its value
and take all measures to safeguard it because they know that
any short sightedness can make future generations pay heavy
cost for the negligence. Dead nations only realize the value
of freedom when they loose it. We shall respect and pay
tribute to the great leadership and sacrifices of millions for
one just cause -that made us achieve freedom. Today, we have
lost respect for Freedom. Freedom never came free, it
never does. It has its cost. The example of Kashmir is there
to make us realize the cost of freedom.
The struggle started by Muslims of subcontinent has to be
saluted. The struggle is yet there. The dream was not only of
getting a separate homeland but also of making Pakistan a
developed country with a prosperous nation. We have to
safeguard our frontiers from enemies and also our fellow
countrymen from evils of poverty, illiteracy and disease. Each
one of us has a role to play. Realize your obligations to your
dear motherland and put efforts to do your part.
Mrs. Amna Tariq, Makkah Mukarrama - KSA
We are proud
by Saman Ali
Children, you all
know that 14 August is our national day and this year
Pakistanis all over the world would be celebrating the 57th
anniversary of their independence.
Do you have any
idea how many sacrifices our elders made so that we could live
in a free country? I am sure many of your grand parents must
have played an important part in the Freedom Fight. I
remember how proudly my father used to tell us that he was a
member of the ‘Bacha Muslim league’ wing and how wonderful he
felt singing after his school” Butt Kay Rahay ga Hindustan lay
Kay raahain gay Pakistan.”
You should really
sit down with your grandparents sometime for a trip down
memory lane. They must be having some wonderful stories of
their own of those days.
When our elders
migrated from India, life was very tough for them. They left
behind a big part of their lives, money, homes, wealth and
above all the memories of their childhood. Their homes were
there for centuries with generations after generations living
in them. However, here in Pakistan they had to face many
hardships. When my elders came and settled in Karachi, for
months they had to live in makeshift tents of bed sheets on
the platforms of Cantt. Station in Karachi.
But they never
went back, none of them. Our elders stayed and faced all the
miseries with patience and unity. We owe a lot to them. If
they had not taken that big decision of migrating to Pakistan,
we had no chance of living in a free country with an identity
of our own_ Pakistanis. No matter which part of the world we
live in, we will always be Pakistanis.
There is a saying
that one should never forget his past. A giant tree can only
stand tall if it has strong roots in the ground. We should
also be like that tree strong and proud of our roots and past.
Jinnah always emphasized three things unity, faith and
discipline. Which are not difficult to follow.
One should always
think of playing a role in the development of his society and
country. You know what is the easiest way of becoming a useful
member of our society. It is education. Just be a good
student and respect your elders for all the sacrifices they
made for you. Then nothing can stop you from achieving your
goals. Be proud of your past and confident of your future.
