Diabetes can cause serious problems in your mouth. You can do something about it

If you have diabetes, make sure you take care of your mouth. People with diabetes are at risk for mouth infections, especially periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal disease can damage the gum and bone that hold your teeth in place and may lead to painful chewing problems. Some people with serious gum disease lose their teeth. Periodontal disease may also make it hard to control your blood glucose (blood sugar).
Other problems diabetes can cause are dry mouth and a fungal infection called thrush. Dry mouth happens when you do not have enough saliva—the fluid that keeps your mouth wet. Diabetes may also cause the glucose level in your saliva to increase. Together, these problems may lead to thrush, which causes painful white patches in your mouth.
You can keep your teeth and gums healthy. By controlling your blood glucose, brushing and flossing everyday, and visiting a dentist regularly, you can help prevent periodontal disease. If your diabetes is not under control, you are more likely to develop problems in your mouth.

Take steps to keep your mouth healthy. Call your dentist when you notice a problem.

If you have diabetes, follow these steps:

  • Control your blood glucose.
  • Brush and floss every day.
  • Visit your dentist regularly. Be sure to tell your dentist that you have diabetes.
  • Tell your dentist if your dentures (false teeth) do not fit right, or if your gums are sore.
  • Quit smoking. Smoking makes gum disease worse. Your physician or dentist can help you quit.

Take time to check your mouth regularly for any problems. Sometimes people notice that their gums bleed when they brush and floss. Others notice dryness, soreness, white patches, or a bad taste in the mouth. All of these are reasons to visit your dentist.
Remember, good blood glucose control can help prevent mouth problems.

What is Safe Mode in
Windows?

Safe mode is a Windows maintenance mode where only the bare minimum of drivers are loaded. You don't have access to CD ROMs, printers, or other non-essential devices.
It's helpful to use this mode when you are having problems with your PC. For example, maybe you just installed an awesome new video card, but in all the excitement loaded the wrong driver for it. This in turn caused your video display under windows to be non-existant. If you go into Safe mode, you can fix it.
I also use it to help find problems with programs. If I get lots of "illegal operation" messages, I try running the program in safe mode to see if the program itself is the problem. If the program runs fine in safe mode, I can assume I have another program or driver that's interfering with the program's operation and causing the error. (Note that not all software runs in Safe mode - especially more robust programs, but it's still worth a shot).
To get to Safe mode, press the F8 key when Windows starts to boot. You have to do this BEFORE you see the first "Windows" screen. I start tapping away at mine when as soon as I get by the BIOS startup screen or the manufacturer's splash screen. Experiment and you'll get it.

AROMATHERAPY/REIKI - NATURAL HEALING BACK PAIN
Back Pain! Almost all of us have experienced back pain in our lives for one reason or another. Among the many causes are: slipped disc, strain, over exertion, weak back and abdominal muscles, jerk, injury, bad posture, pregnancy, spondylosis, whiplash in the past, bone degeneration etc. Since Spine is one of the most important parts of the body, backache must be given serious attention. A visit to the doctor should not be delayed. If the cause is one of slipped disc, spondylosis, injury, spine curvature, osteoperosis or fibrosistis, then immediate medical attention must be sought. If your backache is posture related or due to strain, arthritis, weak back muscle tone, over exertion or pregnancy, then you can find immense relief in Reiki and Aromatherapy. Essential oils, with their analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, sedating and warming properties, can provide wonderful relief from acute and chronic back pain. They act by penetrating deep into the muscle tissues, expanding the contracted muscles and allowing the blood to flow to the area. Examples of such essential oils are Rosemary, Lavender, Juniper Berry, Sandalwood, Black Pepper, Ginger, Vetiver, Thyme, Camphor, Chamomiles etc.
Here are some additional tips:

     -          Do not move, twist or bend with a jerk.
-
Do not pick heavy load without support.
-
Correct your posture, stand with your chin up, chest up, shoulders back and down.
-
Sit with a cushion supporting the aching part of your back.
-
Yoga and Pilates are very effective especially if the back pain is posture related.
-
Eat foods containing calcium or take calcium supplements to prevent osteoperosis from setting in and worsening the condition.
-
Have your spouse or friend do occasional back massage using essential oils in a base oil, avoiding pressure on the spine and the kidney area. Relax with a hot water bottle on the back after the massage.
-
Take frequent short breaks away from your desk or house work. Stretch and/or lay down for 5 minutes to lift the strain off your back.
-
If the upper backache is radiating to your neck, then sleep with a soft towel rolled under your neck and a cushion under your knees.
-
If the backache is due to pregnancy then a weekly lower back, lower leg and foot massage would give great relief.

 Charity
Assalam-O-Aliakum!

All of you must have heard about the Tsunami disaster in Asia. It is a dreadful beginning for the year 2005. The death toll, as shown in news, is increasing in number, day by day. Millions have lost their lives. Many have lost their dear ones and their homes. The latest figures show that 150,000 people have lost their lives in this natural calamity. Authorities fear that there are thousands more missing about whom we have no idea and who will never be counted or accounted for. This is the biggest catastrophe of our times.
For the information of our readers interested in knowing what tsunami is, here is a little briefing. Tsunami is a Japanese word meaning harbor waves (tsu: harbor, nami: waves). This term is used to describe a series of big, moving ocean waves. By big, it means that the successive crests or troughs are spaced at great distances from each other hence these waves have large wavelengths. They can be as high as 25 feet or more. Once produced, they travel in all directions. As they proceed towards land, the time between successive wave crests/troughs varies from five to ninety minutes. Depending on their wavelengths, some areas may be hit severely while others, not too far off, might be hit mildly. They are generated by natural calamities like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions in the sea or deep-sea landslides. The pace of these waves is fast. They move rapidly, flooding and damaging coast line populations. Everything that comes in their way falls victim to these up roaring waves.
The shocking scenes of the Tsunami survivors in South and Southeast Asia showed on TV and pictures in print media make us sad to see our human folks in suffering. At the same time, they trigger us to respond to calls to contribute to the largest relief operation ever carried out in recent past.
A German proverb is "Charity sees the need not the cause". We all sitting safely in our homes, in our comfy couch, watch TV and says a word or two to sympathize with the sufferers. But is it all that we should be doing? All of us, I believe, are capable to do much more. We have to feel the misery of thousands of Tsunami- stricken families. They have lost their homes. They have no food, no drinkable clean water. They are facing the loss of their dear ones. We can help them by donating whatever little or big we can give in as charity.
Charity is a deed with a high virtue. We make so many clothes all year around. Do we really need so many? What if we give some of the portion of our budget that has been set aside for luxuries, to these needy people? When our excessively worn dresses turn shabby, we tend to give them as charity and feel that we have done our part. But that’s not charity. A quote from Jack London refers to the same thing as "A bone to the dog is not charity. Charity is the bone shared with the dog, when you are just as hungry as the dog." Similarly "the charity that hastens to proclaim its good deeds, ceases to be charity, and is only pride and display." Our all deeds for charity shall be solely for the sake of helping Allah's creation to seek His agreement and accord. Hence, young fellows, step out and do all you can to help people just like us who are in need of our help.
Closing with a quote worth to bear in mind, " The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity."

May Allah safeguard us from all harms and perils? Ameen!
