10 Essential Health Tips
(The Basics to Practice Every Day)

"He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything." -Arabian Proverb

1. Move More
Make it a daily challenge to find ways to move your body. Climb stairs if given a choice between that and escalators or elevators. Walk your dog; chase your kids; toss balls with friends, mow the lawn. Anything that moves your limbs is not only a fitness tool, it's a stress buster. Think 'move' in small increments of time. It doesn't have to be an hour in the gym or a 45-minute aerobic dance class or tai chi or kickboxing. But that's great when you're up to it. Meanwhile, move more. Thought for the day: Cha, Cha, Cha…. Then do it!

2. Cut Fat
Avoid the obvious such as fried foods, burgers and other fatty meats (i.e. pork, bacon, ham, salami, ribs and sausage). Dairy products such as cheese, cottage cheese, milk and cream should be eaten in low fat versions. Nuts and sandwich meats, mayonnaise, margarine, butter and sauces should be eaten in limited amounts. Most are available in lower fat versions such as substitute butter, fat free cheeses and mayonnaise. Thought for the day: Lean, mean, fat-burning machine…. Then be one!

3. Quit Smoking
The jury is definitely in on this verdict. Ever since 1960 when the Surgeon General announced that smoking was harmful to your health, Americans have been reducing their use of tobacco products that kill. Just recently, we've seen a surge in smoking in adolescents and teens. Could it be the Hollywood influence? It seems the stars in every movie of late smoke cigarettes. Beware. Warn your children of the false romance or 'tough guy' stance of Hollywood smokers. Thought for the day: Give up just one cigarette…. the next one.

4. Reduce Stress
Easier said than done, stress busters come in many forms. Some techniques recommended by experts are to think positive thoughts. Spend 30 minutes a day doing something you like. (i.e.,Soak in a hot tub; walk on the beach or in a park; read a good book; visit a friend; play with your dog; listen to soothing music; watch a funny movie. Get a massage, a facial or a haircut. Meditate. Count to ten before losing your temper or getting aggravated. Avoid difficult people when possible. Thought for the day: When seeing red, think pink clouds….then float on them.
5. Protect Yourself from Pollution
If you can't live in a smog-free environment, at least avoid smoke-filled rooms, high traffic areas, breathing in highway fumes and exercising near busy thoroughfares. Exercise outside when the smog rating is low. Exercise indoors in air conditioning when air quality is good. Plant lots of shrubbery in your yard. It's a good pollution and dirt from the street deterrent. Thought for the day: 'Smoke gets in your eyes'…and your mouth, and your nose and your lungs as do pollutants….hum the tune daily.

6. Wear Your Seat Belt
Statistics show that seat belts add to longevity and help alleviate potential injuries in car crashes. Thought for the day: Buckle down and buckle up.

7. Floss Your Teeth
Recent studies make a direct connection between longevity and teeth flossing. Nobody knows exactly why. Perhaps it's because people who floss tend to be more health conscious than people who don't? Thought for the day: Floss and be your body's boss.

8. Keep a Positive Mental Outlook
There's a definitive connection between living well and healthfully and having a cheerful outlook on life. Thought for the day: You can't be unhappy when you're smiling or singing.

9. Choose Your Parents Well
The link between genetics and health is a powerful one. But just because one or both of your parents died young in ill health doesn't mean you cannot counteract the genetic pool handed you. Thought for the day: Follow these basic tips for healthy living and you can better control your own destiny.

As DVD recording comes of age and the prices come down, more of us will likely be adding DVD writers to our computers. But what gives with these dueling formats?
Anyone who was around twenty years ago might remember the battle between the two video tape formats: VHS (Victor Home System) and Betamax (Sony). Fast forward to the twenty-first century and we have a similar battle of the formats with DVD.
The disks are pretty much the same, but the writing process is different. DVD+R is a bit more advanced, but the disks often cost more than the older DVD-R format.
Another thing to consider is what format your DVD recording software works best in. I had a friend that couldn't get his software to work and it turned out he needed to use DVD-R. Now he's a regular DVD pirate—Arrgh, just kiddin' matey!
My suggestion? Pay the extra bucks for a writer that supports both formats or wait until the dust settles.

Body, Mind and Soul - Natural Healing
Ever wonder how much we are plagued with negative thinking, worry, stress, anxiety, depression, hatred, anger, bitterness. It is threatening our well-being and consuming are existence. It is literally eating us alive. Don’t you feel it is time to take control of your life and free your body, mind and soul of these parasites??? You have no idea how much you can achieve by just starting to think in the right direction.

“Thoughts have great power.
Thoughts are like seeds you plant in your mind.

The more you hold onto a particular thought,
the more power you invest in it.
Positive thoughts give us energy and strength.
Negative thoughts rob us of power
and make us feel tired and strained.
We are by nature positive. Negativity is
the result of faulty thinking.
You can change if you want to.
You can't control other people, situation
or circumstances, but you can control what
is going on inside you. It takes time to change
and transform those old patterns of thinking.
Be patient with yourself.
It starts with a thought..... Today!”

With a wish that you all are well and putting in your best efforts to pass your upcoming exams with flying colors, I open our today's topic. It is about the threats and opportunities accompanying a risk.
Risk is a possibility of meeting a danger or harm. But at the same time you might land into a world of whole new opportunities. Have your heard the phrase, "How can one catch tiger cubs without entering the tiger's lair?". It means that to achieve greater heights one has to take the risk. One cannot know his/her potential without giving a try to challenging tasks. I remember a story from the Intermediate English text book. Let me share it with you. It was about a seagull that would not fly because he feared that if he tries flying he would fall off into the deep sea that stretched infront. For long, his mother kept feeding him and he did not have any solid reason to try flying. Meanwhile all his siblings learnt the art of flying and fish catching. His parents kept on persuading him to learn flying. His siblings also encouraged him to try flying but he could not muster up enough courage. Seeing his reluctance to take the risk, his parents and siblings left him alone and went away to the other side of the cliff. Now there was chasm between the branch on which the seagull sat and the cliff his family had settled to. He wanted to join the rest of them but he wanted to do so without being able to fly. He felt extreme loneliness coupled with hunger. When he was mad with hunger, his mother flew to him with a fish in her beak. He became excited at once. But his mother stopped right infront of the branch. He being hungry for so long tried to reach her and in an effort to do so fell off the branch. He was seized with a feeling of terror and instinctively he started flapping his winds. Soon he was not falling downright but soaring up and high. It was the first plunge (risk) that was followed by his first flight (achievement).
Ships once in the open sea are exposed to all sorts of challenges that may come…it maybe in the form of rough sea, or underwater huge mountains or things like that. Compared to these troubles, ships are safer in ports. But are the ships meant for this purpose? As Grace Murray Hopper puts it "A ship in port is safe, but that's not what ships are built for.
We observe number of multi national companies around us. Also there are many domestic businesses doing so well. If you dig into their roots, you will come to know that all these successful business are attributed to a courageous decision someone had once made.
Being brave while taking risk does not mean being completely oblivious to all the perils that come along with risk undertaking. It actually requires proper planning. It demands for preemptive steps to be already designed to face the danger if it pops. One has to be watchful. Also one must evaluate pros and cons before plunging into the great ordeal. When you decide to take a challenge, many pity things that would otherwise have not meant much will also appear to be haunting. But a true man is one who faces all these with a will to do. Bill Gates is a name of international fame. He is the founder of Microsoft. He says "A little blindness is necessary when you undertake risk."
So folks, go ahead and take risks with care because The ultimate risk is not taking a risk.
