Asian quake affected
The deadly Asian earthquake may have permanently accelerated
the Earth's rotation, shortening days by a fraction of a

- 1 kg. carrots, peeled and
- 2 cups sugar
- 3\4 cup ghee
- 2 cups khoya or milk
- 100 g. blanched
cut into slices
- 50 g. unsalted pistachios
- 50 g. unsalted and roasted cashew nuts
- 25 g. raisins
- 7-8 whole cardamoms
- 1 tsp. ground cardamom
- silver leaf (varak) for decoration
- few drops of kewra
1.Put carrots and ground cardamom in a heavy based
large pan. Cover the pan with a tight fitting lid and cook
over very low heat for about 30-40 minutes or until the
carrots are tender and all the water has absorbed.
(no need to add water as the carrots will release their
own water. (Add 1\4 cup water if the carrots stick to the
bottom of the pan)
2. Heat ghee in a heavy
based pan, add cardamoms. Stirring all the time, fry for a
couple of minutes. Add carrots and stir fry for few minutes.
Add sugar and while stirring cook uncovered for 10-12 minutes,
until all the water from the sugar has evaporated.
3. Add almonds, pistachios,
raisins and cashew nuts. Stir. Sprinkle in khoya or
milk powder milk and mix it really
well. Add kewra and stirring frequently cook for 3-4 minutes.
The halva is ready when the ghee begin to separate and has
glossy shine. Transfer to a serving dish and decorate with
pistachio and silver leaf. Serve hot.

What can cause low
Many things can
cause low back injuries--muscle strain or spasm, sprains of
ligaments (which attach bone to bone), joint problems or a
"slipped disk." The most common cause is using your back
muscles in activities you're not used to, like lifting heavy
furniture or doing yard work.
A slipped disk happens when the disk between the bones
bulges and presses on nerves. This is often caused by
twisting while lifting. But many people won't know what
caused their slipped disk.
What can I do for relief when I've hurt my lower back?
The best position for relief when your back hurts is to lie
on your back on the floor with pillows under your knees,
with your hips and knees bent and your feet on a chair, or
just with your hips and knees bent. This takes the pressure
and weight off your back.
If you're resting a hurt back, you may need 1 to 2 days of
this sort of rest. Resting longer than this can cause your
muscles to weaken, which can slow your recovery. Even if it
hurts, walk around for a few minutes every hour.
What else can I do for
Heating pads can
help to relax painful muscle spasms. Use heat for 20 to 30
minutes at a time. Ice packs and massages may also give
relief. Nonprescription medicines that reduce pain or
swelling include aspirin, acetaminophen (brand name:
Tylenol), naproxen (brand name: Aleve), ketoprofen (brand
name: Orudis), and ibuprofen (brand name: Motrin).

AROMATHERAPY– NATURAL HEALING - ASTHMA IN CHILDREN
Watching your child wheeze and gasp for breath is both a
frightening and a heart-breaking experience for the parents.
Asthma is a condition caused by the constriction of airways.
It is of two kinds. The ‘Atopic” kind is linked with eczema,
hay fever and migraine in the person or his family. The
‘Non-Atopic’ kind is a bronchial reaction to irritants like
dust, dampness, pollen, carpet fiber, animal fur, cold air,
grass, sprays etc. It can also be brought on by anxiety. It is
very encouraging to know that asthma, in children, often stops
at puberty. While we hold on to that ray of hope, there is a
lot that can be done. Parents can keep a record of the
surroundings, diet and circumstances that trigger an attack.
Soon a pattern will be seen and frequency and severity of
future attacks can be reduced. As in every case, diet must be
watched very carefully. Some children respond well to cutting
down of wheat, dairy and canned foods and pop sodas.
An asthmatic child needs to strengthen his lungs. A
bronchiodilator and yoga exercises for lungs and diaphragm are
highly recommended. Aromatherapy can also do a lot to make an
asthmatic child’s life easier. Anti-inflammatory,
anti-spasmodic, calming, decongesting, mucolytic and
expectorant essential oils like Roman Chamomile, Eucalyptus,
Cypress, Geranium, Lavender, Frankincense, Rosemary, Rose,
Pine, Marjoram etc can be used in various ways to avoid or at
least reduce the intensity of an asthma attack. The below
mentioned techniques should be adopted only under the
supervision of a qualified Aromatherapist :
- The best
preventative method is regular chest and back massage using
diluted essential oils like Roman Chamomile, Frankincense,
Cypress, Lavender and Geranium.. An Aromatherapist can help
you select the right oils depending upon the age of the
nighttime, 2-3 drops of the e. oils can be added to a bowl
of hot water. The bowl can be placed in the child’s room.
The slow diffusion of the oils will ease the child’s
breathing. Direct steam inhalation is NOT advisable for an
asthmatic child. An Aroma diffuser can also be used for

1-2 drops can be put on a tissue and inhaled from time to

This time, we will take a look at what we can possibly include
in our resolution list that will help us become better human
beings and also bring us closer to our Creator, Allah
A worth aim to have shall be to become one of those who are
closest to Allah as it is these people who are truly blessed.
As said in Quran, only those among you are close to Allah who
are greater in Taqwa. So we shall work to increase our
Taqwa. Taqwa is the fear of God. It means that we fear
Allah's wrath and try to avoid those acts that can be reasons
to anger Allah Almighty. There are ways that lead to enhancing
our taqwa, foremost being salat. Good for those who are
regular about their prayers. The lazy ones shall make
toba(seek forgiveness) and at once shall take measures to
become regular about salat. Five time prayers have been made
obligatory on us- the muslims. There is no excuse, whatsoever,
in this Farz command from Allah. In our salats, we shall work
to improve our concentration. One way of doing it can be by
paying attention to what we say in salat. For this, we shall
try to get familiar with the meaning of our prayers. For
menfolk, they shall try to be punctual for Jamaat prayers. The
women folk in this regard can play role by reminding their
menfolk about the importance of jamat and persuading their men
to join jamat for prayers. We shall also try to increase our
prostrations as Allah is happy to see His men bowing infront
of Him. We shall try to offer Tahajut prayers as at night time
Allah comes down and listen to His men who leave their
comfortable beds just to worship Allah and ask Him for His
favors. It is said that if you want to talk to Allah Almighty,
offer salat and if you desire your lord to talk to you, read
Quran. Quran is the book of Allah. Its tilawat(reading) is a
source of spiritual cleansing and relaxation. On every word,
we read from it, we get a virtue. It is important that we
recite it properly. For this, we need to seek guidance from
learned religious scholars who can guide us how to pronounce
its words in best manner (tajweed). Going through the meaning
of Quran, help us understand the true spirit of religion Islam
and also what Allah's commandments are. For those who memorize
the whole Quran, rewards are many. Being a muslim, we all
should be knowing atleast few surahs from the Holy book. Often
we find ourselves waiting in queue for our turns. At such
time, instead of wasting our time, we shall increase the good
deeds in our "Account book with God" by reciting Holy Quran or
by doing zikar- remembrance of Allah.
These are just a few points that, if practiced upon, can help
bring us closer to our Sustainer. We shall look for more
opportunities to get the approval of Allah Almighty. May Allah
accept from us and help us become true muslims. Ameen.
