TRAVEL
Health Tips |
Most people
don't have any problems when they fly, but it's possible to
make airplane travel safer and more comfortable. Here are
some tips:
-
Carry
enough of all of your medicines in your carry-on luggage.
Ask your doctor whether you should change your dosages if
your eating and sleeping times will change at your
destination. Bring enough medicine to last your whole
trip. Take extra medicine with you in case your return
trip is delayed.
-
If you have
diabetes or epilepsy, carry a notification and
identification card Have the name and phone number
of your doctor with you in case of an emergency. Remember
to bring along the names and dosages of all of your
medicines.
-
The air in
airplanes is dry, so drink, decaffeinated beverages and
water to avoid becoming dehydrated.
What can I
do about jet lag?
-
Get plenty
of sleep before you leave.
-
Eat
well-balanced meals.
-
Avoid
overeating.
-
Exercise as
much as you can on your trip.
-
Use sleep
medicines for only a few days.
-
Get used to
a new time zone by going along with the local meal and
bedtime schedules.
Melatonin may
help with jet lag, but no one knows how long it can be used
safely. Tell your doctor if you plan to take melatonin or
any other herbal or alternative medicines.
What about
pain in my ears?
If your ears
hurt when you fly, try taking a decongestant medicine (such
as pseudoephedrine) before you get on the plane. You can
also swallow often and chew gum during the flight. Babies
can suck on bottles or a pacifiers during the flight.

HEADACHE?
EAT FISH!
Eat plenty of fish -- fish oil helps prevent headaches.
So does ginger, which reduces inflammation and pain.

Don't Start! |
|
Don't
you just hate it when you've installed a program that
insists on starting itself when you boot the computer?
You know the drill. You install something and it places
an icon in your system tray.
Now, all those little icons you see in your system tray
represent programs that are RUNNING. If a bunch of stuff
loads when you start your computer, you may be maxing
out your system before you launch your first regular
program. So, if you find your computer getting
progressively slower as you add more software, it could
be that these system tray icons are, at least partially,
at fault.
In addition, program running in your system tray can
cause any (or all) of the following problems:
-
Sluggish system speed
- Frequent lockups / illegal operations
- Software install problems
- Difficulty in running some programs
The more of these programs you have running, the more
likely it is that you're going to see one or more of the
problems mentioned above. Granted, System Tray programs
are not the only cause for the conditions mentioned
above, but they are the first place to look.
So, how do you keep all these unwanted programs at bay?
1. Click the Start button and select Run...
2. Next, type in:
msconfig
Then hit OK. |

Aromatherapy
- Natural Healing
In this issue, we shall see how Aromatherapy works and affects
the chemistry of the body. We have said earlier that each
essential oil has a unique pharmacological effect. When an
essential oil is inhaled, the molecules enter the nasal cavity
and reach the limbic region of the brain. This region is
responsible for the memories and the emotions in an individual
and it also influences the glands that secrete hormones
controlling the blood pressure, stress, fear, ecstasy, heart
rate, breathing etc. The essential oils are made up of carbon
molecules that are able to pass through the blood brain
barrier. Since these oils are electrochemicals of a similar
type to be found in the brain, they not only have a direct
affect on the parts of the brain but also help improve nerve
synapses. Thus, they influence the hormonal functions
mentioned above. Depression and other dysfunctions that are a
result of chemical imbalance can also be changed. In addition
to all this, the essential oils are also capable of
interrupting the pain arc with their electrochemical action.
They change our awareness of the ongoing pain. The pain may
still be there, but the brain doesn’t perceive it anymore….the
anesthetic effect !
Depending upon the method of application, the essential oils
may also enter the blood stream via skin and lungs. Once in
the blood stream, they trigger other neuro-chemicals in the
body like Encephalin and Serotonin, that play a specific role
of promoting pain relief, sleep, calm, happiness, stress
relief, fear relief etc.
This is how the essential oils have a profound effect in
balancing the psychology and physiology of a human being and
it is up to a qualified Aromatherapist to choose the right
combination of essential oils for the right chemical effect.

Do Unto Others As You Wish
Others To Unto You
Assalam-O-Alikum,
Dear Friends…how are you? Enjoying the scorching heat of
summers!!! …
The hot weather reminds us to pray to Allah to save us from
the intense heat on Day of Judgment and the fire of Hell. May
Allah always keep us among His true followers. Ameen.
Faith groups differ greatly in their concepts of deity, other
beliefs and practices. Similarly cultural preferences vary
across the globe. But there is near unanimity of opinion among
the world's various historical religions on how one person
should treat another. And that is summed into the phrase that
forms our topic of discussion this time.
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
Such simple words - yet how difficult it is to follow. Our
religion emphasizes this by saying “Not one of you is a
believer until you wish for other believers what you wish for
yourself.” (Narrated from Hadith book).
Holy Prophet preached Islam with wisdom. Once a man came up to
Holy Prophet requesting for permission to allow him to do a
bad deed with someone else. Holy Prophet asked that person if
he would allow someone else to do the same bad deed to him or
any of his relative. The man replied “Certainly not”. Thus the
Prophet made him realize that likewise no one else also
desires to be hurt or humiliated.
We consider ourselves to be separate from everything else. It
is not so. “Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are
but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to
ourselves.”(~Chief Seattle) What we think, what we say, and
what we do affect everything else in the universe in the same
way that it affects us.
We should treat people as we would like to be treated. I
remember my little cousin complaining to her mother of the
inhospitable attitude of her classmates. My aunt’s reply to
her little one was, “It's no use complaining that your
classmates are unfriendly, when you haven't been friendly to
them ... Deal with others as you would desire yourself to be
dealt with”.
It is not easy for others to continue with harsh attitude if
you are consistently well mannered and pleasant with them.
They will finally become polite and welcoming.
Treat others as you would want others to treat you. Be kind.
Be patient. Be polite. Be caring. Be trustworthy. Be honest.
Before you speak, be watchful and careful of how your words
will affect the one you're speaking to. Before you utter a
lie, question yourself if you would appreciate that person
lying to you. Before you sneak that small, insignificant item
from your school or any place you visit, ask yourself if you
would be glad about someone coming to your home and taking
something away they thought was insignificant? Before being
impolite and selfish, think how you would feel if someone is
impolite and selfish with you. Would these things make you
feel good or otherwise? If you are going to be heard by these,
so is the other person.
There are many morals by which we live, but Do unto others
as you would have others do unto you symbolize our most
cherished value.
Ending with a beautiful prose from a poem “Letter from Heaven”
By Ruth Ann
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too
That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
Mrs. Amna Tariq, Makkah Mukarrama - KSA
