Roasted Leg Of Lamb |
|
- 2.5 - 3 kg whole leg of lamb
- 4 tbs. lemon juice
- 1 tbsp. garlic paste
- 3 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. black pepper
- 1 tbs. ground coriander
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tbs. ground cumin
- 250 gm yogurt
- 1/2 cup cooking oil
1.
Trim all fat and silver skin from lamb.
Prick lamb thoroughly with a sharp knife or large fork or cut
small slits all over lamb with a sharp knife.
2. Place the lamb in a deep baking
dish, spread lemon juice all over
lamb and rub it into the slits.
Cover and marinate for an hour.
3. Combine garlic paste,
salt, black pepper, coriander,
nutmeg, cumin and
yogurt in a small bowl. mix well.
4. Pour the marinade over the lamb and coat well all over.
Cover and place it back in the
refrigerator for 6-8 hours or
preferably over night.
5. Prepare the grill and grill lamb on an
oiled rack set 5-6 inches over glowing coals for 10-15 minutes
on each side. At the end of cooking time brush lamb with oil.
Serve it with
Nan and
Chutney.
To bring faded black clothes back
to life, hand wash them in warm water with a little vinegar.
It strips away the fading properties of washing powder and
softener.

Steroid may prevent miscarriages
 |
Taking steroid tablets while
trying to conceive could reduce the risk of miscarriage for
some women, scientists at Liverpool University suggest.
Doctors there have already helped some women with histories of
recurrent miscarriages to have healthy babies. The steroid is
thought to work by blocking immune cells that, in some women,
appear to go into overdrive in the womb and stop embryos
implanting. A European fertility conference in Denmark heard
more research is planned. Previous research has shown that
there are increased numbers of immune cells called natural
killer (NK) cells in the wombs of women who suffer from
recurrent miscarriages - when three or more pregnancies fail
to go to term. The condition affects two in every 100 women of
reproductive age. In half of cases, no obvious cause will be
found and in a third of those, abnormally high numbers of NK
cells are found in the womb lining. The cells should make up
no more than 5% of all those in the lining. Dr Siobhan Quenby
and colleagues at the Liverpool Women's Hospital believe the
NK cells might attack the growing embryo and stop it from
implanting properly in the womb, leading to miscarriage. The
cells have steroid hormone receptors on their surface, which
led the researchers to question whether giving susceptible
women steroid drugs might help prevent miscarriage.
Natural
killer cells
They recruited 110 women who had severe recurrent miscarriage.
They had experienced an average of six miscarriages with no
known cause. The researchers took samples of the women's womb
linings and tested them to identify the quantity of NK cells.
Any women whose endometrial cells contained more than the
normal range were offered 20mg of the oral steroid
prednisolone for 21 days from the start of their menstrual
cycle. Out of a possible 33 women, 29 agreed to take the drug.
When the researchers took a second endometrial sample after
the 21 days of prednisolone treatment, they found the steroid
had significantly reduced the percentage of NK cells in the
womb lining. Dr Quenby told the 21st annual conference
of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology
in Copenhagen, Denmark: "The women had an average of 14%
before treatment, with the highest percentage being 72%, and
after treatment the average dropped to 9%."
Success
Now that they have shown the treatment can lower NK cell
count, the researchers plan to see if it will make a
difference to miscarriage rate. Dr Quenby's team has already
had some success in using prednisolone to treat women who have
undergone recurrent miscarriages. The first was a woman who
had had 19 miscarriages, who went on to have a baby in 2002
after receiving the steroid. Since then, two more women have
had babies, including Ruth Hirst, 42 and from Huddersfield.
Another three women are pregnant and doing well, said Dr
Quenby. Dr Quenby said: "Anecdotally it seems fantastic. But
there are many unanswered questions. "We need to prove it now
with a large randomised controlled trial." She is looking to
recruit 700 women to take part in the study. Half would
receive the steroid and half would receive a dummy pill. It
should begin in the next few months, she said, but added that
they needed more women to come forward - and extra funding. Dr
Adam Balen, a gynaecologist from Leeds and member of the
British Fertility Society, said: "This is promising research
that requires explanation. "It is essential to do a placebo
study [using a dummy pill] to prove that prednisolone does
work."

at CP have simply failed to understand that why KSA
CP community did not even inquire more about this
magnificent opportunity that we created for our
children, thanks to
Adventure Foundation Pakistan.
The objective of this expedition was simply to let
our children, who are most of the time "locked"
inside apartments and compounds, explore the
wildlife in the supervision of professional, be on
their own rather pampered and protected all the
times by parents. Gave them a chance of enjoying the
true wildlife and learn the basics of survival. The
scope of the expedition was very similar to scouting
activities that we all have enjoyed while studying
in Pakistan. It has been a very disappointing
experience for CP team. This has made us realize
that in future we should not come up with such
exclusive arrangements for our community in KSA. The worst part is that not a
single parent came forward reasoning why not to
attend and what was it that we were missing or
lacking before
they could send their children with
top expedition
professional in Pakistan. Your input always value
a lot to us. But in this case we would rather say
that community has not played its vital role of
participation, may it be a simple email giving us
your views. You have no clue what opportunity
children have missed.

 The
Deep Impact spacecraft
is expected to arrive near Comet Tempel 1 on July 4, one day
before the comet reaches perihelion (its closest point to
the Sun). It will have released its copper impactor about 24
hours before, while making a "deflection maneuver" to move
off to a safe distance of about 300 miles (500 kilometers)
from the comet.
The table-sized, 820-pound (372-kilogram) impactor is
scheduled to smash into the comet’s nucleus at 23,000 mph
(37,000 kilometers) per hour, creating a crater perhaps 670
feet (200 meters) wide and 50 meters deep, at around 6 hours
Universal Time on July 4. That time corresponds to the late
evening hours of July 3 for the west coasts of the United
States and Mexico.
Along the west coast of Canada, the Sun will either be
setting, or it will be twilight. Dusk will also be falling
for Hawaii and New Zealand. As the Earth rotates over the
next 24 hours, the rest of the world will be turned toward a
view (weather permitting) of the comet. At the moment of
impact, Comet Tempel 1 will be situated about 3½ degrees to
the east-northeast of the bluish first-magnitude star, Spica.
For comparison, your fist on an outstretched arm covers
about 10 degrees of sky.
Finding the target
During June, Comet Tempel 1 will be gliding on a
south-southeast course through the constellation of Virgo,
the Virgin. The comet will have already made its closest
approach to the Earth in early May at a distance of 66
million miles (106 million kilometers).
Although it is now moving away from the Earth, the comet is
still approaching the Sun, so its overall brightness in the
coming days and weeks will appear to change very little, if
at all. The comet is expected to hover at around
tenth-magnitude, meaning that it will glow about 40 times
dimmer than a star that is at the threshold of visibility
with the unaided eye.
So, to successfully locate it, you will need three things:
-
A
star chart
with the comet’s projected path plotted on it.

A
good telescope
and of course,
-
A
dark, unpolluted night sky.
During the next several weeks, Virgo and the comet will be
over in the west-southwest part of the sky as darkness falls
and setting soon after midnight, local daylight time.
So what will we see? That’s the $64,000 question. Nobody can
really say for sure.

Greetings!!! How is the hot weather going? Phew! Ever wondered
how truly blessed we are to have air conditioners and air
coolers with us? Where and what would have us been without
them!
The blazing heat drains our energies. We get exhausted too
quick in hot weather. Isn’t it? So today, we talk about a
cooling agent we are naturally blessed with. Any guess?… yes
right…it is the pure smile that we all are capable of.
Difference of opinion is a natural thing. Sadly, often they
turn into quarrels leading to cold wars between people. Such
situations get haunting and one gets perplexed about how to
set it right. It is a radiant smile that can work wonder
there. A smile from one side and the bitter feelings get
going. No wonder it is said that smile is a curve that sets
everything straight.
A hectic daily routine tires all of us. Sometimes we get weary
after a long work day. Too tired and exhausted makes us take
one of the bad tempers. At that time, if you go and greet
yourself in the mirror with a beaming smile from your own
self, you will feel instantly refreshed and relaxed. A poet
puts the same thing in verse form:

Children have
an unknown power and so do their smiles which work miracles.

When we leave our homes in morning for school, mother gets
busy with house chores so that by the time we return we get a
tidied up home, with meal ready, clothes ready etc. All the
work exhausts mother but when her child gives her one of the
pure smiles, she is relieved of her fatigue. Same way, when
your tired father returns from work, and you greet him with
your beaming smile, he feels instantly refreshed.
Smile has a healing effect too on the wearer. If everything
looks going against us, go and see the person in the mirror.
Give a smile, a big one. And the world will look better
because the world always looks brighter from behind a
smile.
A smile is an inexpensive way to change your looks. You
are not completely dressed unless you wear a smile. Wear it
all times. It is a universally understood language also. When
you meet anyone, give him one of your smile.

A smile costs nothing but gives much. It enriches those who
receive without making poorer those who give. It takes but a
moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is
so rich or mighty that he cannot get along without it and none
