It is apt for all of us, who spend long
hours at our desks, looking at the computer screen.
I Thought I'd share it with you. 20-20-20

Step I :-
After every 20 minutes of looking into the
computer screen, turn your head and try to look at any
object placed at least 20 feet away. This changes the focal
length of your eyes, a must-do for the tired eyes.
Step II :-
Try and blink your
eyes for 20 times in succession, to moisten them.
Step III :-
Time permitting of
course, one should walk 20 paces after every 20 minutes of
sitting in one particular posture. Helps blood circulation
for the
entire body.
Circulate among your friends if you care for

'Space hotel' test craft launched |
|
 |
|
An experimental spacecraft designed to
test the viability of a hotel in space has
been successfully sent into orbit.
Genesis II is an
inflatable module designed and launched by
Bigelow Aerospace, a private company founded
by an American hotel tycoon.
The inflatable and
flexible core of the spacecraft expands to
form a bigger structure after launch.
Billionaire Robert
Bigelow hopes to use inflatable technology
to construct a manned space station by 2015.
Inflatable spacecraft
are attractive because they take up less
space on their launch vehicle than solid
components and therefore cost less to place
into orbit.
Genesis II was
launched on board a Russian rocket, and
successfully separated from its launch
vehicle 14 minutes after lift-off, engineers
said.
Communications were
established with the craft after a short
delay, before the module beamed back a
series of images of its expanding solar
panels.
Officials said the
craft was functioning well, with
communications and air pressure as expected.

Scientist Calls Mars a Terraforming Target for the 21st
Century
By
Leonard David
ASPEN, Colorado - Mars will be
transformed into a shirt-sleeve, habitable world for
humanity before century's end, made livable by thawing out
the coldish climes of the red planet and altering its now
carbon dioxide-rich atmosphere.
How best to carry out a fast-paced, decade by decade
planetary facelift of
Mars
- a technique called "terraforming"
- has been outlined by Lowell Wood, a noted physicist and
recent retiree of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
and a long-time Visiting Fellow of the Hoover Institution.
Lowell presented his eye-opening Mars manifesto at Flight
School, held here June 20-22 at the Aspen Institute, laying
out a scientific plan to "experiment on a planet we're not
living on."
Humans: a terraforming species
"I suggest that the near-term outlook is that Mars will be
terraformed," Wood said, and seriously underway by the
middle of this century and essentially complete by the end
of the 21st century.
Wood defined terraforming as "the purposeful alteration of
the physical environment to increase its habitability for
humans." He noted that we homo sapiens are a terraforming
species, pointing to our own planet's alteration over time.
"We're currently in the tenth millennium of the terraforming
era," Wood said. Similarly, Mars will be terraformed...as
will every other piece of the solar system that we can get
to...if-and-as humanity becomes truly space-faring, he
explained.
"The terraforming impulse in humankind will be quenched only
by massive adverse selective pressure," Wood reported.
Terraforming nay-sayers seem to ignore the fundamentals of
population genetics, sociobiology and human history, he
argued.
Mars is far easier to terraform than the Moon, Wood advised.
"It's kids' stuff as far as rendering it [Mars] into
something that's human habitable quickly and easily. The
Moon is a good bit tougher."
Thermal depression
Wood said that Mars currently is "stuck" in a semi-permanent
"thermal depression." But there is a multiplicity of design
solutions, he foresees, such as engineering an artificial
greenhouse effect at the planet that warms the world and
makes it "a more preferred planet."
Overall, Wood said that a workable plan can be scripted to
raise the average temperature of Mars, rid the world of
excess carbon dioxide, as well as generate soil to support
agriculture.
After roughly one to three decades of such warming, Wood
continued, the "Great Spring" literally erupts all over
Mars. It's all a matter of trimming-and-tailoring a thawed
Mars to the "biospheric optimum," he concluded.
Responded Esther Dyson, Chairman of EDventure and host of
the Flight School: "This is not a project that would fit the
time horizon of any venture capitalist." But Wood said that
the effort is doable, but with a caveat. I believe it's
roughly a 50/50 chance that young children now alive will
walk on martian meadows...will swim in martian lakes," Wood
said. It is not technology, nor money, he said, the pacing
ingredient is marshaled will.

“IN THE NAME OF "ALLAH" THE ONE WITH
WHOSE NAME NOTHING IN THE EARTH NOR IN THE HEAVENS DOES ANY
HARM; AND HE IS THE HEARER, THE KNOWING.
Someone said, "When one door of happiness closes,
another door opens. But often we look
so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that
has been (already) opened for us". Honesty is the
best policy beyond any doubt, since it
gives us invaluable moral courage

pragmatic, since pragmatism
essentially is the key to success.

Time to Spend
Assalam-O-Alikum,
Dear folks, How are you? Bored…did I hear that? Though we
are all looking forward to summer vacations for the much
needed break from our monotonous routine, but after sometime
we tend to get bored as we find nothing to do. It is not
possible to watch TV all day and neither is it a good
practice to waste time chatting online…so what can we do? We
don’t want to sit idle because they say idle mind is a
devil's workshop. So folks, here I am with some ideas for
you to spend your time in a useful manner.
Girls and boys, your leisure time can be best utilized in
acquiring new skill. It is indeed an opportunity for you to
learn new skills. Use this chance to learn the skill of your
choice. If you want to learn something about IT, go and join
a course for it. Those who want to sharpen their English
skills or any other language for that matter can join so
many of the language institutes that offer special programs
in summers. There are many institutions that give formal
training in various fields like painting, wood crafting,
candle making etc. If you don’t find any such academy
around you, then you can get a book to guide you. There is a
wide range of "How To-" books that provide techniques and
tips to all those interested in learning a skill. If you are
unable to get access to a good bookshop, surf online and
find a useful website to get directions to learn a skill.
We are born with unique creative skills. Some have
exceptionally good creative talent. If you are among those,
use your spare time and sharpen your skill. Try writing an
article, doing poetry, making a sketch, paint...
The Sports lovers among us can join Sports club. It is good
time to learn a sport or practice and excel in the sport of
your taste. Sports do good in keeping body trim and fit as
well. Those who are interested in fine tuning of their body
can join gyms that have mushroomed in every nook and corner
now. But a word of caution here: Do not take harmful drugs
for fitness sake. Be careful of the company you form at
these places because some of the places have become
notorious because of hooligans coming there.
Girls can avail this time in learning skills from the ladies
at home. If you have grandma at home, ask her to help you
in learning sewing, stitching, knitting or doing embroidery.
Go in kitchen and learn cooking from mother or cook.
Guys and gulls, in summer vacations you can run extra
errands for elderly around you and make a little pocket
money for yourself. Go and pay the bill of your elderly
neighbours, do small tasks like replacing a fused bulb,
oiling the squeaking doors, or help your parents in grocery.
Don’t do it just to earn some bucks. Do it for the blessings
and duwas that you will receive. You can also do some
charity work. Teach your maid's child or the sweeper's kid.
Dear friends, there are just so many things can you can do
in the free time you have now. Don’t waste it foolishly. Be
wise and utilize your vacations efficiently. Last but not
least...have fun!
