Exclusive Recipe

Mango Cheese Cake

1\4 cup butter
2 cups crushed digestive biscuits,
- 2 large ripe mangoes
- 3 oz packet mango or pineapple flavored gelatin ( such as jell-o brand)
- 1 1\2 tsp. unflavored gelatin
- 1 tsp. tbsp. lemon juice
- 3 tbsp. sugar
- 2 8-oz pkgs. Philadelphia brand cream cheese
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 1 tsp. vanilla essence

How to Cook:
1. Lightly oil a 9 inches (24cm) spring release cake tin. Line the base with greaseproof paper and grease the paper.
Make the Base:
2. Mix together the melted butter and biscuit crumbs. Press the crumb mixture into the base of the prepared pan and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Make the Filling:
3. With a sharp knife, peel the mangoes and scrap the flesh from the stone. Discard the stone and chop or mash the flesh.
4. Boil 1\2 cup water in a small saucepan, remove from heat, add jelly, gelatin, lemon juice and sugar, stir to mix and keep aside for 3 minutes. Return the saucepan over low heat and stir until gelatins and sugar is dissolved. Cool slightly, add mango flesh then refrigerate until thickened but not set, stirring occasionally.
5. Put the cheese in a large bowl and beat with an electric beater until smooth, about 2 minutes. With a balloon mixer fold the cooled mango mixture into the cheese.
6. Working quickly, in another bowl beat cream and vanilla until, it is the same consistency as the cheese mixture. Then lightly fold in the cheese mixture. Pour into the biscuit crust and refrigerate or chill until set, about 6-8 hours.
7. Carefully remove the sides of the cake tin then using a blade knife or spatula loosen the base and slide the cake off the base onto the serving plate. Decorate with mango slices, if wished. This recipe serves 8 people.
Preparation Time: 20minutes.
Cooking Time: 10 minutes

The 10 Tips to Help Overweight Kids

Obesity is a problem not only in the old age, but among kids too. It affects the kid mentally and also predisposes the child to many other diseases. The following tips help to reduce weight of obese children.

  1. Get kids moving. To lose weight, kids must burn more calories than they take in. No one physical activity is better than another for calorie expenditure. So let kids find the type of activity they enjoy.

  2. Start babies off slim and fit by restricting their diet during the first year to breast milk. There is really no solid scientific evidence that babies need anything other than formula or breast milk during the first five months. When carbohydrates (cereal) are introduced too early, they are not digested efficiently because the protein in milk and carbohydrates are digested in completely different ways leading to maldigestion. Excessive maldigested foods lead to excess weight.

  3. Feed kids alternatives to commercially produced cow's milk. At five times the protein content of breast milk, cow's milk and the bovine growth hormone it contains make kids bigger and fatter. Instead use soya-milk fortified with calcium or Rice Dream, a milk created from rice.

  4. Get high-risk foods out of the house. Don't buy snack foods high in calories; they're fattening for the entire family.

  5. Establish family meal schedules. Get kids accustomed to eating at specified times with small snacks in between, rather than all day long.

  6. Buy organic health foods. The additives in our foods are chemicals, not nutrients, and are therefore neither utilized nor eliminated by the body. The preservatives, steroids and growth hormones in our foods, particularly in meat, chicken, milk and other dairy products, become stored in our bodies, adding to our weight.

  7. Encourage your child to take part in extra curricular activities, not necessarily sports only, but music or arts or anything the child is interested in. This will change the focus of the child on it being obese and provide mental relaxation.

  8. Teach children conscious food combining. Fruit should be eaten alone on an empty stomach for quick absorption. If introduced into the digestive system when other foods are present, it will just sit there. Mixing carbohydrates and proteins should be minimized. Once animal protein is eaten, it should be followed primarily by protein.

  9. Never nag children about eating and being fat. Criticism only raises stress and anxiety levels, making the problem worse.

  10. Don't over control what your child eats. Don't make the entire family focus on controlling the overweight child's food intake. Instead, put the emphasis on being healthy and involve the children in attaining that goal.

Watch For Filter Traps
in Email Program

SUMMARY: Keep your e-mail from accidentally getting deleted.
With the onslaught of spam, viruses, and worms sent via e-mail, many people are filtering their inboxes against such threats. Unfortunately, e-mail filters are not magic; they are software packages written by people, and they run by following a set of rules. Don't let your legitimate mail get filtered. Here are some tips on writing subjects for your legitimate e-mail that don't get filtered.

2. Avoid lots of exclamation points!!!!
3. Placing the word 'spam' in your subject might cause your email to get filtered.
4. You might like free stuff, but your recipient might prove tired of the subject.
5. HTML mail may look nice with its many fonts and colors, but it may get filtered.
6. An email subject of just 'hi' or 'hello' may cause the message to never get read.

 Aroma Therapy - NATURAL HEALING
Aromatherapy is one of the most popular forms of natural healing. Limited knowledge has led a lot of people to believe that Aromatherapy is all about ‘Massage’. In fact, massage is just a tiny part of this wide field of Complimentary/Alternative Medicine. Aromatherapy is a branch of herbal medicine that uses the medicinal properties of oils extracted from different parts of plants such as flowers, leaves, roots, stems, buds, bark and branches. These oils are called ‘Essential Oils’ and are highly concentrated and volatile. They can be toxic if taken internally without guidance of a qualified professional. When applied topically, in the right proportions, and in the right blend, they can assist with a large variety of health conditions, some of which are: stress, anxiety, depression, lack of energy, burns, cuts, bruises, muscle/joint/nerve pains, headaches, migraines, insomnia, blood pressure (high/low), palpitation, premenstrual syndrome, diarrhea, poor digestion, menopause, colds/flu, sore throat, sinusitis, arthritis, scars, acne, various skin conditions, low immunity, discomforts of cancer, edema and many more which we will be discussing in future.
There are many ways in which these oils can be used: steam inhalation, compress, massage, bath soak, sitz bath, in cream, lotion, ointment or perfume form. Essential oils can affect almost every organ/system in the body. Each essential oil has a unique pharmacological effect such as anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, sedative, analgesic, stimulating, cell-rejuvenating, tonic, wound healing etc. In our forthcoming issues, we shall explain how Aromatherapy works in the light of science and medicine.

Some ancient places that may not have stood the ravages of times but they still define our history and the process of societal evolution in this part of the world we call home. Quiet village Shahbaz Ghari (some time called Shahbaz Ghara) at the foot of Karamar Mountain in Mardan Division is one such place.

A Kind Deed Goes A Long Way
“How far that little candle throws its beams!
So shines a good deed in a weary world.”
The above quote of William Shakespeare highlights the impact of a kind deed. There is a saying that says, “Kind words may be small, but their echoes are truly endless”.
A kind deed is any act that shows consideration, affection or gentleness towards others. It can be as simple as a smile to lighten up someone from a gloomy mood or can be as heroic as saving someone from a life threat by risking your own life. “Kindness is the language, which the deaf can hear and the blind can see” (~Mark Twain).

Kind deed never goes unrewarded. Allah likes those who help His creations. The acts of kindness do not cost much. Watering a plant in hot weather, feeding a hungry animal, relieving anyone from the suffering pain are few from the infinite number of kind deeds one can do.
The doer as well as the receiver is blessed by its virtues. I remind you of a story to explain this. Once a slave ran from his cruel master. He took refuge in a jungle. One day he heard a painful groan from behind the bush. He saw a lion holding its paw towards him. He was frightened but saw that the beast was in real pain. He noticed that the lion was trying to draw his attention to the thorn stuck in its paw. He endangered himself but pulled the thorn out to relive the beast of the pain it was in. It licked the hands of the slave to show its gratitude and went away. King’s men later captured the salve after a few days. The decision was made to penalize him by throwing in the cage of a hungry lion. People had gathered to see the scene. But they all witnessed a strange thing. Instead of tearing the slave to pieces, the lion licked the slave. It was the same lion that the slave had once helped in jungle. The king set him free.

Every kind deed done is a sadqa in light of hadith of Holy prophet (p.b.u.h). There are so many which we can do daily and which require no special efforts. We can help old in carrying luggage, help the children and blinds in crossing a road, or simply just pick a hurdle from the pathway.

Summer vacations are coming. They bring us another opportunity. We can have some quality time by giving tuitions to the needy free of cost, ones who cannot afford to go to school.

Dear folks, remember to treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you - not because they are nice, but because you are. Bear in mind that “It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice”. Allah Hafiz from me till we meet next time.
