Retirement age
will rise to
85 |
The age of retirement should be raised to 85 by 2050
because of trends in life expectancy, a US biologist has
said.
Shripad Tuljapurkar of Stanford University says anti-ageing
advances could raise life expectancy by a year each year
over the next two decades.
That will put a strain on economies around the world if
current retirement ages are maintained, he warned.
He also told a science meeting in St Louis that 50-year or
75-year mortgages may not be unusual in the future.
Dr Tuljapurkar was speaking at the American Association for
the Advancement of Science annual meeting in the Missouri
city. "People are going to do things they didn't get round
to in their working lives. Current institutions are really
not equipped at the moment to deal with such long lives," Dr
Tuljapurkar said. "We are going to have to plan a lot more
carefully, which people are not very good at."
Lifestyle trends
The Stanford researcher has been looking at relationships
between historical trends in ageing, population growth and
economic activity. Based on this, he came up with a scenario
in which anti-ageing technologies will increase the most
common age of death by one year per year between 2010 and
2030. Dr Tuljapurkar then applied this scenario to four
countries: the US, China, Sweden and India.
He found that his projected trends in life expectancy would
have profound effects on the economy, lifestyle and
population demographics. "It might be possible to go through
two mortgages, for example, or even have 50-year or 75-year
mortgages," Dr Tuljapurkar explained. In the US, the cost of
social security and medical care would almost double if
people retired at 65 under Tuljapurkar's scenario. But an
increase in the retirement age to 85 would bring costs down
to today's levels. However these trends would also create a
"permanent underclass" of countries where opportunities for
increased life expectancy were not the same as in the
industrialised world. "We can't even get retrovirals to some
countries now," he told journalists.

Dear Iqbal Bhai,
First, I thank you from the depth of my
heart, for all you and CP Team is doing for the benefit
and awareness of our community. May Allah pour His
Blessings on you all.
I do highly appreciate your interest and
concern for the betterment of our community. With
regards to your item in this fortnight's newsletter "Wish
to Setup Business in KSA",
I have some observations for the benefit of our
Pakistani brothers and sisters and to avoid any
misunderstanding that may arise after reading this
item.
Setting up business in Saudi Arabia, as
mentioned in the abovementioned item is not that
easy. For correct information of our community, I would
like to mention that according to Article (6) Item (3)
of the Executive Rules of the Foreign Investment Act, "An
investor is a natural person who has come to the Kingdom
for investment". In other words it means that
"resident non-Saudis are not elegible for investment".
You can view the Executive Rules of FIA
at the following link:
I therefore request you to correct this
information so that our community members do not waste
their time and energy in applying for the license, and
then being sorry for not having obtained it. And, yes;
this is a real opportunity for people not residing
in the Kingdom and wanting to setup their businesses in
Saudi Arabia, because the minimum requirement has been
reduced to just SR.100,000 for services projects. If you
need any more information, please do not hesitate to
contact me any time. Best regards, Faiz H. Khilji
Thank you for your kind and
positive input. For general information your email is
published here.
Dear Sir.
I need your help regarding to family Visa issue. There
is rumored that Govt. is getting changes in their Visa
policies. Could you please give us any proper
information. Because in Saudi Arabia normally people
don't know any thing ( especially Govt. related
affairs). every body has different views. Could you
please provide us proper information specially for the
Family Visa. Thanks for your co-operation. Mohd. Naeem
Qasim, Al Khobar.
Dear Bhai, soon inshaAllah we will
publish information about visit visa. Zarori Baat last
episode had few tips for obtaining the visit visa.

Maintain Your Grades
And
the exams season has again set in. I ca say the blue faces
of some of you out there. Yes, exams do sound gloomy but
they are an essential part. It is through these that
students' caliber is tested. I hope you all are preparing
well for the approaching exams. Best of luck!
Keeping in view this exam season. I have chosen a related
topic for this fortnight's newsletter.
"I want to
stand first in my class" that’s what most students aim for.
I would say "No". That is not the right goal. It means that
you want to come first in your classmates by being the top
scorer. But what if your lot of class fellows is not the
brilliant ones. They are average or below average scorers
and even though with little hard work you do come first, but
your percentage is not good. In this manner, you won't be
equipped to deal tougher competitions. So the right approach
is to set a target in terms of what grade and percentage you
want to get and keep them. You must rephrase your goal like
"I want to maintain A1 grade or that I want to score above
ninety percentage". In case, getting first position was your
target, you will get lazy once you achieve it. But if your
target was to get a defined grade, then you are likely to
continue working hard to keep it.
Getting your target is not that tedious as much as
maintaining it is. Once you stand first, the goal is over
and as a result it is likely that soon the laziness takes
over you and you lose. Once you are at the victory stand,
you have to put in more to stay there. See it is an ongoing
effort.
So you see it makes a difference in just the simple way that
you state your goal. As you prepare for the upcoming
assessments, set a goal for the score that you are going to
achieve and maintain. Remember 'The secret of success is
constancy to purpose'. May Allah's blessings be with
you. Till we meet next, take care and Allah Hafiz
