RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, March 20, 2001 The organizers have finalized
all the arrangements for the forthcoming prestigious two days eighth Riyadh
Intercontinental Golf Championship which is set to begin from March 29 at the city lush
green Intercontinental hotel golf course.
It is a stroke play format event to be played over 36 holes and the champion will be the
player with the lowest net score, said Jason Fullard, the director of golf club at the
hotel and a PGA professional. Like the previous meets, once again players from all over
the Kingdom will be seen in action.
The first shotgun start (tee off) will be at 7 a. m. and the second tee time is set for 11
a. m. Last year, Ben Diaz, a Filipino, surprised everyone to capture the crown. This year
sponsors to the tournament are Saudi Hollandi Bank, American Airlines, Lufthansa,
Jordanian Airlines and Bang & Olufsen.
Prizes are lined up to the tenth place with special awards for the daily best Gross and
Net scores. The top award is an American Airline business class ticket, cash prize and a
trophy. The second and third prizes are Lufthansa Airline tickets and cash prizes. The
fourth winner will get a Jordanian Airline ticket along with the cash award. The fifth
award is a telephone set and cash from Ban & Olufsen. The others remaining are to be
presented with cash awards only. In addition, special prizes are to be given for the
nearest the pins for various holes.
The awarding will be on March 30 after the tourney, said Fullard. Interestingly enough,
the gala is open for ladies as well and handicap will be counted. Interested players can
