SHERATON FILA ACE DARTER SPOIL SPICE BOYS BID FOR SOLO LEAD SHERATON FILA DART2K GALA
By Parwaiz Imam

RIYADH, August 30, 2000 – The Sheraton Fila Ace Darters guided by Flor Almoite continued its winning streak by downing their closest rivals, the Spice Boys, in a highly contested second game match to win in the end by narrow margin of 8-7 in the ongoing Sheraton Fila Dart2K tournament.
Starter Wily Paz unleashed two T40 to survive a tough Mario Guanzon for the maiden Ace point. The rivals threatened and retaliated, taking three consecutive points through Ely Martos, Sammy Macabalang and Edwin Canalos againt Fred Torres, Pol Dagundon and Banny Alagar respectively. However, Manny Barroga came their way by stopping Philip Agliam in the fifth. This was followed by a Willy Bariuan victory over Jun Cabaltera for an even 3-3 score ending Singles.
In the first Doubles, their pair Paz and Bariuan captured the pivotal 5-3 edge against Martos and Macabalang while putting the opponents in a difficult situation to win at least one of the two remaining Doubles match in order to keep themselves in contention. The rivals fought back and their second pair Canalos and Mario Guanzon succeeded against Torres and Bobot Quines for the equalizer at 5-5 and transforming the third Doubles into a no-bearing match that later resulted to two points more for the Spice Boys, ending 7-5 prior to the Team match.
At this stage, it became thrilling as the 3-points decisive 4-men team match could end the game either 10-5 for the Spice Boys or 8-7 for the eventual victors. The latter fielded Martos, Guanzon, Canales and Cabaltera against Paz, Barroga, Torres, Bariuan in a clash that pulled all the spectators away from the other boards.
The opening scene showed a see-saw battle by a square exchange of skills until Spice Boys got the upper hand midway in the match but later eroded by a T40 from Bariuan followed by a Ton from Paz. Torres of the winning side was gifted the first chance for the fatal shot but missed a D20 with 74 to go for the Spice Boys. Cabaltera in return precisely calculated his first dart to hit a T14 for a golden chance with still two darts to go for a 32 but misfired, enabling Bariuan to unroll the final curtain with D20 by one dart to the loud cheers of their supporters. The loss was the first for the second of the table after their seven straight victories.
Highlighting the matches from the other boards, Lito Javier of the Four Seasons Furniture delivered two T80, his second and third this league in a first game encounter with Iskan Knights. In the same session, Knight’s Jorge Yadao finished a 150 by T20-T20-D15 in a Singles match against Eddie Almonte.
Other T80s of the day were from Ernie Samartino of Saudi Ericsson, Bariuan of the Ace and Lito Capacio of the Striker Point. Yadao 150 now reigns as the league highest out shot, dethroning the 148 of erstwhile holder Rodel Victor of Casper.
In the other first game results Saudi Ericsson bt Kingdom Corner 10-5, Iskan Knights bt Four Seasons 8-7, Ace bt Shifa Intruders 14-1, Casper bt Striker Point 8-8, Spice Boys bt Aphidech 15-0.
