APHIDECH GROUP HALTS SHERATON FILA ACE DARTERS WINNING STREAK RIYADH, Sept. 5 – Down the table Aphidech Group produced a major jolt in the second set of games when they scored a thrilling 8-7 win over the leaders Sheraton Fila Ace in the Sheraton Fila Dart2K tournament. Things were smooth till the conclusion of the round robin in the first games when Ace of Flor Almoite completed a sweep here by winning 11-4 against cellar-dweller Kingdom Corner of Ed De Lone to maintain a 9-0 win-loss card. Their lone surprise loss so far came in the second set of games, which marked the start of the second round robin of the ongoing elimination on the same night. Their unexpected loss eventually placed the Spice Boys who beat Iskan Knights 9-6, to the top of the standing by a hairline difference on points while they dropped to the second place. The jubilant victorious side performed poorly in the singles, letting the opponents takes a 5-1 advantage but quickly recovered four straight points in the first and second doubles to equalize at 5-all. The Aces bounced back in the third doubles for a 7-5 lead into the pressure laden deciding leg, the team match. Aphidech troubled them by squarely neutralizing their output till both the teams were ready for the kill. Willy Paz of the Ace, whom the spectators assumed not to miss a D16, was awarded the first trip to the toe line but pinned too short of the target. However, they got another breather when victor’s Nick Gapasin who attempted and missed a D20. Banny Alagar of Ace resumed the duty but did nothing except hitting the same pinholes that were created earlier by Paz. As the pressure of the match boiled hot, it was Arnel Tapusok of the winning side who stood calm and finished a 40 by a S20-D10 chemistry to the delight of their other team members and their supporters. The Spice Boys in a pre-calculated move knew that a loss by the leaders of the table will automatically place them to the top, closely watched the match and their dream came. Now, they and Ace share an identical 9-1 win-loss card but split on points. Strong contender Casper will try to avenge a first round loss to Spice Boys on Friday while Ace will aim for high margin victories to pump in more points. Both Spice Boys and Ace are aiming to sweep their remaining assignments to contest on points. They will meet later for their second round encounter with Ace having narrow psychological edge after their first round victory over them. In the other results of the first game round robin earlier, John Damaso of Saudi Ericsson prevailed over Aphidech in a hard earned battle in the decisive team match. The Iskan Knights, single handedly gained a premature win over the Shifa Intruders with nine points as early as the second doubles. Casper of Sandy Alegre went too strong for Lito Javier Four Seasons Furniture by nailing five of six singles, then followed by a perfect score in all the three doubles for an 11-4 triumph. Spice Boys guided by Jun Cabaltera continued pumping points by a 12-3 win over the Striker Point led by Lito Capacio. The event, which is contested by ten teams, is organized by the Expat Darters of Saudi Arabia (EDSA), a prime association of dart enthusiasts based in the capital city. It is being hosted by Sheraton Riyadh hotel and towers. Sodas Sports, the sole distributor of Fila sportswear in the Kingdom courtesy of their general manager Abdul Mumen Al Garawi and Power Horse Energy Drink thanks to country manager Ahbet Quinto, are sponsoring this gala. It is fully supported by the energetic and a sports lover Thomas Boesch, executive Assistant manager of the hotel. The game are played in 01 mode comprising six 501 Singles at one point each, three 701 Doubles at two points each and a 1,001 Team match at three points for a total of 15-points. A team requires eight points to clinch a victory. As the admission is free at the health club, the spectators are welcome to enjoy the exciting action every Friday starting from 1.30 p.m.
