SIMOLDE LEADS FITNESS TEAM TO LADIES TOP FLIGHT CROWN AS HITTT TENNIS AWARDING ENDS IN A COLORFUL STYLE

RIYADH, Sept. 19, 2000 – Led by the best player in town, Helen Simolde, the Fitness team were the crowned the top flight champions at the dinner awards night of the second annual Hospitals Invitational Team Tennis Tournament, an exclusive gala for the ladies, held recently at the Jadawel compound social hall.
On hand were two hundred tournament participants and guests who were treated to a special evening of awards, raffles and special song numbers as they gathered to award the triumphant and the very best among them.
HITTT 2000 ladies side of the tournament set a record in terms of the number of participants as it attracted more than a hundred participants and created interest to the game as competitions proved more intense and exciting than what had earlier been expected, said the organizers.
A total of eighteen teams in four skills saw action here. Participants consisted of employees and dependents from King Fahad National Guard Hospital, King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center, King Khaled Eye Specialist, Security Forces, Riyadh Military, and Hammadi. Over the course of two and a half months of sheer summer, intense and exciting competitions were held in tennis courts of different hospitals among the teams who had subscribed with the objectives of friendship, fitness and fun through the game of tennis.
Lector, the chairman in his welcome address cited the efforts of those who helped in the success of the tournament. It also included the executive members of the committee namely Jubie Estero - vice-chairperson, internal; N. Eugenio, vice-chairman, external; Babes Vasquez, secretary-general; Aurora Gutierrez, assistant secretary general; Helen Simolde, treasurer, Nelia Manlapig – assistant treasurer; D. Galang, Amor Robles – PROs, Myrna Yapsangco - auditor. Also, thanked for during the program were M. Maddock, HITTT's host for the evening affair, sponsors, the hard-working hospital coordinators and many volunteers during the course of the tourney.
Special guests who graced the affair included F. El Laithy – chairman Riyadh Team Tennis League, A. Quinto, Country Manager Power Horse Energy Drink and S. Hassan of Racquet Shop. Eugenio and Robles were emcees of the evening affair, which attendees praised as very well organized.
Two hundred and ten handsome trophies, courtesy of Power Horse, and silver-lined plates were awarded to winning teams and individuals. Special award recipients included the newly discovered young talents, both sisters, Beth Quilacio and Maica Quilacio from KFSH&RC. The event was sponsored by Power Horse Energy Drink, Coca-Cola, Sarawat Superstore, Anseri Cargo and Al Hakbani Establishment.
The champions in various categories, its playing members and recipients of the individual prizes are:

Flight A: Champion – Fitness team (captain Helen Simolde, assistant captain Marivic Tuquiero, Betsy Costumbrado, Agnes Misola, Celia Arastia, Vivienne Sabello, Myriel Quilacio, Heidi Agustin; Runner up – Fun (captain Myrna Yapsangco, assistant captain Shirley Cruz, Helen Flores, Jo Alimpuangon, Nini Dimalanta, Adel Lopez, Marinel Marquez, Nelda Flauta; Best single player - Helen Simolde; Best double players - Vivienne Sabello, Heidi Agustin.

Flight B: Champion - Security Forces Hospital A (captain Cecille Bago, assistant captain Marivic Tuquiero, Adelia Lopez, Vivienne Sabello, Nelda Flauta, Isabel Lata, Joy Siongco, Heidi Agustin; Runner up - King Faisal Specialist Hospital (captain Yolly Maborang, assistant captain Celia Arastia, Jean Borjal, Cathy Malayas, Betsy Costumbrado, Johanna Rint, Meg Quilang, Myriel Quilacio; Best single player - Vivienne Sabello, Best double players - Nelda Flauta, Isabel Lata.

Flight C1: Champion - Security Forces Hospital B (captain Babes Vasquez, assistant captain Fernalyn Minas, Nina Sanches, Malou Sarmiento, Fatima Basilio, Agnes Vila, Rose Leong, Praxy Boncales; Runner up - King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (captain Nitz Fernandez, assistant captain Lilia Basilio, Jubie Estero, Janet Hicban, Janet Pacleb, Evelyn Baldos, Bibian Parulan, Nympha Cosico; Best single player - Rose Sotelo, Best double players - Babes Vasquez, Fanny Minas.

Flight C2: Champion - King Faisal Specialist Hospital (non playing captain Au Gutierrez, assistant captain Malou Carido, Vicky Aquino, Monina Diaz, Kim Ignacio, Agatha Cambridge, Tess Rapadas, Flor Santos; Runner up - Riyadh Military Hospital (captain Tita Butterworth, assistant captain Lalaine Asuncion, Joan Bunda, Debbie Noguera, Merly Natividad, Davina Robles, Amy Arat, Gigi Tendencia; Best single player - Tess Matutes, Best doubles players - Vicky Aquino, Flor Santos.
