RIYADH, April 24, 2001 - Al Yamama advanced further in the race for the
Division II title when they beat Arab National Bank (ANB) by comfortable margin of 43-39
in the Nike Riyadh Team Tennis League (RTTL) 2001 Spring Season League.
The victors lost their two important doubles but later recovered to win the crucial single
when Velasco beat Zahrani 8-5. In the doubles, Talata Ranosa defeated
Lucardi-Moukarzel 8-4 and Estaris-Ardemio overcame the fighting pair of Campbell-Barabas
by 8-7.
In the second clash of same
division, North-South and Central recorded a facile win over Cordoba compound by 55-34.
The winning team lost in the singles when Drequito went down to Manazo 7-8 but won the
last two doubles matches. Here, Onias-Pacleb beat Do-Chau 8-7 and Malayas-Borjal defeated
Maihle-Waidel 8-6.
In another weekly encounter, Cordoba had an easy triumph over ANB by 53-30. Of some
thrilling matches, Kornacki down Casey 8-5. The tandem of Le Hoang-Chau overpowered
Lucardie-Barabas 8-7 while the pair of D. Allion-T. Allion lost to Barabas-Campbell 5-8.
Only one match was played in the top Division I. Here, Vinnel won impressively against the
powerful Diplomatic side by 46-43. Of the action, Edwin Ignacio lost to Grebots 6-8.
Balint set aside Salim Bitar 7-8. The double pair, Cabenes-Cailio lost to Sannerud-Van
Sertima 6-8/
Two matches were decided in Division III. In the first, Most Tennis Team survived against
Security Forces hospital with a narrow margin of 49-45. Of some action, Silvedero beat
Camara 8-7. Santiago-Paglinawan lost to Serrano-Minas 6-8. Silvederio-Baltazar lost to
Honrado-Basilio 6-8 and Baltazar-Sabello beat Flauta-Basilio 8-6.
In the second encounter, Cyber 2001 trounced Security Forces Hospital 52-15. In some of
the matches witnessed, Gonzales defeated Hipolito 8-3 and Jarin-Bajala tandem set aside
Gueco-Atilio 4-8.
